Job Description:

Organizes and assists in the preparation and delivery of teaching or extension laboratories for large animal clinical sciences. Includes performing inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment; development of schedules for staffing of laboratories; organizing animal or specimen availability, handling, restraint and movement of animals for laboratories; maintaining equipment and models as required, development of staff SOP for laboratory preparation and delivery.


Provide scientific services for large animal research projects. Including, but not limited to, handling animals, administering treatments, collecting samples, assisting in surgery and anesthesia, monitoring animals, medical/ research record keeping, modifying and implementing protocols for various research projects within the department. Maintain detailed records of all procedures and specimens collected. Conducts scientific experiments for analysis, data entry, and management. Prepare detailed written report of research results for analysis.


Supervises the care of and maintains laboratory equipment and facilities; initiate purchase orders for laboratory equipment and supplies; participates in evaluation of new equipment and supplies for potential purchase for laboratories. Prepares reagents, stock solutions, sterile surgical supplies, set up and clean-up of research experiments.


[10%] Computer skill including use of data spread sheets, statistical packages, word processing, SAS, making computer generated slides, graphs & charts.

Expected Salary:

$46,000 - $49,158.84 

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelors degree in biology or a related field and three years of experience or Masters degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Capable of handling horses independently.
2. Willingness to assist with handling other large animals, including goats, sheep, and other large FARM animals
3. Ability to plan and organize teaching laboratory and research work after generalize instruction
4. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing
5. Advanced computer skills
6. Knowledge of basic biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and physiology
7. Needs to have good basic skills in laboratory techniques or willingness to learn
8. Ability to operate and interpret results of research projects using a variety of lab techniques
