Job Description:

An Adjunct Assistant Scientist in Quantum Chemistry position is available for the Division of Physical Chemistry to work on a project on computations and method development for vibronically coupled molecules and its application to problems in molecular spectroscopy led by Dr. John F. Stanton in the Department of Chemistry at University of Florida beginning in Fall 2024. We have a position available in our group to work on (1) Ab-initio calculation and characterization of vibronic and rovibronic spectroscopic parameters, (2) Simulation and prediction of spectra for Jahn-Teller active molecules (3) Quasidiabatic approaches in coupled-cluster theory (4) Algorithm development for vibronic and spin-vibronic problems. We are looking for individuals familiar with analytical as well as numerical experience in these (or closely related) topics and willing to establish a dialog with others already involved in ongoing experimental and theoretical work. The position will be housed within the Division of Physical Chemistry, and the Adjunct Assistant Scientist will be embedded in the multidisciplinary team studying quantum chemistry and its application to problems in molecular spectroscopy, thermochemistry, and chemical kinetics. Must have PhD in a related field including, but not limited to, theoretical chemistry, molecular physics, and chemical physics. This position will be initially awarded for one year and may be renewed for up to three years, contingent upon strong performance and conduct and availability of funds.

Expected Salary:

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in related fields including, but not limited to theoretical chemistry, molecular physics, and chemical physics with 2 years of postdoctoral training and significant experience with method development for quantum chemistry. Applicants should also have a strong publication record, good spoken and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Desirable backgrounds/skills include:

  • Familiarity with electronic structure techniques,
  • Experience with coupled cluster and EOM-coupled cluster methods,
  • Experience with quasidiabatic approach to vibronic coupling,
  • Ab-Initio calculation of high-resolution parameters for spectroscopy in presence of symmetry breaking effects,
  • Simulation and analysis of vibronic and high-resolution experimental spectra,
  • Algorithms for high-level quantum-chemical methods used for solving vibronic and spin-vibronic problems,
  • Ability to code in Fortran, C++, Python, etc.
