Job Description:

The Department of Astronomy at the University of Florida invites applications for a postdoctoral associate in theoretical/computational astrophysics to conduct research on topics related to galaxy evolution, dust in galaxies, and/or the physics of the ISM. The successful candidate will develop and analyze a new generation of galaxy evolution simulations with Dr. Desika Narayanan to further these research goals, and will be in heavy collaboration with Dr. Paul Torrey at the University of Virginia. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2025, though with some flexibility.

The position is renewable annually for up to three years based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding. A Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics or a related field is required prior to the start date. A competitive salary and funds for research/travel will be provided, and the position includes a benefits package.

The successful candidate will have access to ample computational resources via the newly built HiPerGator research computing cluster: (https://www.rc.ufl.edu/about/hipergator/), on which Narayanan maintains a significant allocation. The University of Florida has active research groups in theoretical astrophysics, galaxy formation and evolution, ISM physics, star formation, stellar astronomy, extrasolar planets and instrumentation, with vibrant groups both in the Department of Astronomy and Department of Physics. In addition, they will have access to collaborative opportunities campus-wide via the newly established Informatics Institute at the University of Florida, and artificial intelligence initiative (ai.ufl.edu).
