Job Description:

The University of Florida Levin College of Law seeks to admit and enroll students who will distinguish themselves in serving the state, nation, and world through the practice of law, formulation of public policy, legal scholarship, and other law-related activities.

Thus, the College of Law seeks to enroll students who, collectively, bring to its educational program a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, interests and perspectives.

Seasonal Admissions Application Readers will read and evaluate applications for UF Law to help determine student admission utilizing established criteria and professional judgement. The reader will average 10-12 hours per week with a maximum of 15 hours during peak application times. Work is onsite; however, hours are flexible during normal office hours. The reader is a member of the admissions office and is required to sign a confidentiality agreement and complete FERPA training.

In order to avoid potential conflicts of interest, seasonal readers may not be a current law student, law school applicant or immediate family member of an applicant who is planning to apply to law school (regardless of whether or not they are considering applying to UF Law). A seasonal reader can neither be employed by another law school, nor be employed independently or with an organization that provides personal law school counseling.

Expected duties and responsibilities:

  • Review and evaluate UF Law admission applications quickly, yet carefully and objectively, while providing thorough notes
  • Make recommendations based on criteria outlined by the Office for Admissions
  • Render a high volume of decisions
  • Possess excellent reading/comprehension, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to exercise keen judgement and discretion
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team and show initiative in completing files
  • Respond promptly to communications from the Office for Admissions
  • Participate in comprehensive training as assigned
  • Maintain essential records, paperwork and application files in a confidential, thorough manner

File readers work under the supervision of the Associate Director for Operation and the Assistant Dean of Admissions to helpful fill target goals. This individual will be expected to read an estimated 1,500 applications through the duration of the employment term.

This position requires a criminal background check.

Expected Salary:

$15 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in any field; Ability to work independently and meet deadlines; Excellent verbal/written communication skills, attention to detail, analytical skills, good judgement, and time management skills; Comfort working online and with software programs; Professional attitude and ability to maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience in admissions and higher education

Previous experience reading and evaluating admission applications and/or analyzing transcripts

Previous experience proofreading essays and/or other documents
