Job Description:
Do you have a passion for microfluidics and a desire to explore biogeochemical processes in geological environments? The Geofluids Laboratory at the University of Florida's Department of Geological Sciences seeks a highly motivated and results-oriented postdoctoral associate to join our interdisciplinary research team.

The project focuses on developing and utilizing geologically relevant microfluidic chip models to investigate flow and biogeochemical reaction processes. You will collaborate with labs in environmental microbiology and hydrochemistry to explore biogeochemical interactions within these microfluidic systems. Potential applications of this research include hydrogen storage, carbon sequestration, enhanced oil recovery, and contaminant remediation.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Design and fabricate geomaterial-inspired microfluidic chips.
  • Conduct microfluidic experiments with Micron-resolution PIV (µPIV) system
  • Perform computational modeling to numerically simulate microfluidic experiments (training will be provided).
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Contribute to funding application development.
  • Manage lab environments & Mentor graduate students.

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Extensive experience in microfluidic and lab-on-a-chip system development, and their applications.
  • Experience in handling cells in microsystems (in vitro)
  • Additionally, a strong background in geochemistry, imaging, and image analysis is preferred.
  • A Ph.D. from all science and engineering majors, especially in Biochemical, Environmental, or Petroleum disciplines.

Expected Salary:

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.

Minimum Requirements:
Ph.D. in science or engineering, especially in Biochemical, Environmental, or Petroleum disciplines.

 

Preferred Qualifications:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Experience in microfluidic chip fabrication and experiment.

• Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
• Ability to take initiatives, set priorities, time-manage, and resolve problem
