Job Description:

The Department of Linguistics at University of Florida invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in the areas of syntax and semantics beginning August 16, 2024. This is a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure-accruing, appointment with a 2/2 course assignment. Expertise in syntax and semantics is required and additional expertise in field methods and morphology is welcome. Participation in department life and appropriate department service are also expected.

Courses to be taught during the Fall semester include Syntax I for first year graduate students and Intro to Syntax for undergraduates; in Spring semester, a combined undergrad/graduate course in Morphology, Field Methods, and/or a course in semantics are possible.

Candidates should have completed a Ph.D. in linguistics or be in their final year of PhD study with evidence of strong teaching ability.

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Florida is a vibrant and congenial unit consisting of 14 full-time faculty and 15 affiliated faculty in the departments of Anthropology; Languages, Literatures, and Cultures; Spanish and Portuguese Studies; and the Dial Center for Written & Oral Communication. We offer a B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. in Linguistics, as well as an undergraduate minor and undergraduate certificate in TESL and a graduate certificate in Second Language Acquisition and Teaching. We have faculty expertise in a wide range of linguistic subfields, and particular strengths in the areas of bilingualism, language documentation, psycholinguistics, computational linguistics, and African linguistics. Minimum Requirements:

A Ph.D. in linguistics or be in their final year of Ph.D. study.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior experience teaching syntax, semantics, and/or field methods in linguistics.
