Job Description:

The University of Florida (UF) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Benefit Specialist II. This role will primarily focus on coordinating and processing enrollment activities for various groups of employees, including academic faculty members, clinical faculty members, TEAMS, USPS, temporary, and OPS employees. Additionally, the successful candidate will provide assistance with benefits, retirement, and leaves of absence, ensuring that UF employees receive the support and information they need regarding their benefits programs.

Examples include:

  • Coordinate and process enrollment activities for benefits eligible groups of employees.
  • Assist UF employees in understanding benefits program eligibility and provide information on health insurance and other benefits.
  • Address complex problems and complaints related to benefits, retirement, leave, retirement loans/hardships, and cashouts.
  • Ensure timely processing of enrollments, qualifying status changes, and terminations for employee benefits using PeopleSoft and other relevant systems.
  • Retirement - Provide Optional Retirement Program (ORP) counseling, Florida Retirement System (FRS) and Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) retirement counseling to our eligible employees.
  • Responsible for communicating ORP procedures for enrollments and changes with the ORP approved companies. 
  • Counsel individually with faculty and TEAMS employees, university-wide to insure employees properly enroll in the ORP within the 90-day period. 
  • Provides Florida Retirement System (FRS) counseling to USPS, TEAMS, and academic employees.  Prepares Final Salary Certifications (FC-1) for employees retiring and transmits to DOR for employees retiring. 
  • Advise employees of voluntary retirement savings options and enrollment steps and responds to follow-up inquiries.  Process enrollment paperwork and coordinate deductions with the appropriate vendor.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This individual will be responsible for staying abreast of all processes, policy, regulatory, compliance, related to Benefits and Retirement. Interpreting and communicating all updates/changes to campus partners and collaborating with campus partners as applicable. Implementing changes to internal processes includes participating in business process reviews and providing recommendations for improvements for efficiency or to better support campus partners.

Expected Salary:

$50,000

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of PeopleSoft, People First/Convergys, GatorJobs, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
