Job Description:

The University of Florida (UF) Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) Research Program in The Villages seeks an enthusiastic and qualified individual to fill the Student Research Assistant position. This position will work with faculty and the Center’s research team in translational and implementation science and in contributing to research projects aimed at improving health care quality, outcomes and well-being for older adults. The research assistant will collaborate with internal and external research partners, clinical providers and other community stakeholders. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and high motivation to deliver quality work products are a must.

Under the supervision of the research manager(s), the Research Assistance supports research activities for ongoing and newly initiated clinical trial studies in the UF Health Precision Heath Research Center. The student Research Assistant will be responsible for communicating with research participants, collecting survey data, and data entry. Will be responsible for meeting deadlines, paying attention to detail, and protocol requirements. Must understand and comply with the regulatory policies and procedures regarding human subject research: governmental, state, and as required by the University of Florida. 

More About This Role

Research:

• Administer surveys and questionnaires and collect research information directed by protocols and standard operating procedures for assigned projects.
• Responsible for assisting in recruitment and screening of community research participants.
• Assist with participant study visits and follow up in accordance with the study protocol.
• Collect, maintain, and organize study data using electronic databases.
• Meet project requirements in a timely and consistent manner.

 

Communication:

• Creates presentations and flyers for focus groups and community engagement events.
• Conduct outbound calls, emails, and text messages as they relate to specific assigned projects
• Receive and respond timely to communications (telephonic, email, etc.) from research participants and study teams on assigned projects.
• Effectively assess research participant and study teams’ needs and concerns, and request additional help when needed.
• Show courtesy and professionalism on all calls and personal interactions to ensure a positive experience.
 

Other:

• Participate in all required meetings and training sessions as necessary.
• Assist in all other daily activities of research studies (e.g. preparing mailings, study documents, reports, etc.) 
• Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

As a university-wide research infrastructure, the CTSI enhances UF’s capacity to conduct impactful clinical and translational research by offering resources, training, and support to investigators across disciplines. The institute promotes collaboration among researchers, clinicians, and community partners to advance scientific innovation, improve health care delivery, and address health disparities throughout Florida and beyond.
 
Expected Salary:

$14.00 - $16.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

This position is open to all University of Florida degree-seeking students (undergraduate and graduate) who are in good standing. Must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during summer.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer candidates from psychology, public health and health professions, health and human performance, social or behavioral sciences, nursing, or gerontology.

EXPERIENCE 

  • Working in healthcare or academic research environments 
  • A customer-service orientation and/or experience working with older adults 
  • Committed to participant protection and privacy 

KNOWLEDGE 

  • Familiar with regulations surrounding research participant recruitment, including human-subject protection, health studies and Institutional Review Boards 

SKILLS 

  • Survey tools such as Qualtrics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and data analysis software (Excel, SPSS)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and flexibility as expectations and deadlines shift 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and communicate reasonable expectations regarding workflow, deadlines and deliverables
