Job Description:

The University of Florida Division of Infectious Diseases and Global Medicine is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure/non-tenure track Physician Scientist (MD or, MD/PhD) Ast/Aso/Full Professor position to join the division’s team of productive investigators. The Division’s research faculty consists of 11 principal investigators whose research interests include: Antimicrobial resistance and pharmacotherapy, microbiome, hospital epidemiology, mycobacteria, HIV, and vector-borne diseases.

The academic environment of the University benefits from a strong and collaborative faculty, state of the art research space, and numerous research core facilities as well as extensive opportunities for the development of translational research programs.

Candidates must have an M.D. degree, and must be board-certified or board-eligible in Infectious Diseases and eligible for a Florida Medical License.

Candidates should have an active NIH career development K award and are expected to establish independent and well‐funded research program and participate in the teaching of graduate and medical students. Documented evidence of productivity, based on publications in peer-reviewed journals is a requisite, and successful competition for externally funding is anticipated. Start-up funds will be provided as well as ample opportunities for collaboration with basic, translational, and clinical investigators. Rank and Tenure status will commensurate with qualifications. Potential areas of research to include:

Antimicrobial resistance, stewardship and pharmacotherapy

HIV prevention, comorbidities and clinical studies

Vector-borne infections

Infectious Diseases Epidemiology, Pathogenesis and Outcomes Research

 

The applicant will be expected to cover clinical services and contribute to the Division’s teaching mission as it relates to students, residents and fellows, with the option for VA 8ths. Effort for clinical and translational research projects will be appropriately protected if applicable.

The UF Department of Medicine is a national leader in several medical specialties. The University of Florida Health Science Center features one of only 2 Clinical Translational Science Institute (CTSI) hubs in the state of Florida. The CTSI features a Training and Research Academy for Clinical and Translational Science for early career faculty seeking to develop research skills and pursue careers as clinical investigators. This faculty position may be based at our University teaching hospital or at our immediately adjacent VA Hospital, both of which serve a designated shortage area and/or a medically underserved area/population.

The Gainesville region has an inexpensive cost of living, nationally ranked public middle and high schools, and superb weather with multiple year-round recreational opportunities including biking, hiking, kayaking, snorkeling and cave diving. Pristine wilderness areas, coastal communities, famous theme parks, and other attractions are within a short driving distance. Gainesville Regional Airport provides non-stop service to four major international air travel hubs.

Expected Salary:

Salary is negotiable, commensurate with education and experience.
