The Opportunity

The College of Journalism & Communications is looking for an HR Generalist I who’s ready to help people thrive. In this role, you’ll support faculty, staff, students, and volunteers by coordinating recruitment, onboarding, compliance, and records management. If you’re energized by detail‑driven problem‑solving and enjoy working in a collaborative campus environment, this is your chance to make a meaningful impact.

Your job duties in action:

  • Student hiring & onboarding: From posting OPS positions to managing employment actions—appointments, salary changes, terminations—you’ll ensure every student is hired, trained, and on payroll in a timely manner.
  • Compliance champion: Track and enforce all UF and federal training requirements, review audit reports, and proactively resolve gaps.
  • Volunteer program lead: Coordinate on‑boarding, documentation, and compliance, turning volunteers into empowered contributors.
  • Record‑keeping steward: Maintain precise personnel files, mitigate risks, and provide clear reports to leadership.
  • Continuous improvement advocate: Identify workflow enhancements, contribute to HR projects, and help foster an engaging workplace culture.
 

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience: 3–5 years in HR, preferably in higher education, covering recruitment, onboarding, compliance, and record‑keeping.
  • Skills: Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, excellent communication—both written and verbal—and a service‑oriented mindset.
  • Tools: Proficiency in UF HR systems, Roster, and ATS; comfortable with spreadsheets and data analysis.
  • Mindset: A proactive problem‑solver who thrives in a fast‑moving, collaborative environment.

Expected Salary:

$23.95 - $26.34 per hour; commensurate with experience

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:
  • Knowledge of Salesforce, Adobe products a plus
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), HRCI
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus
