Shop Oversight and Work Assignment: Assigns, schedules, and reviews work orders for Fire Alarm and Fire Sprinkler Technicians and Maintenance Generalists. Coordinates daily workflow for both shops, ensuring work aligns with established priorities, safety procedures, and NFPA requirements. Monitors AIM work orders, verifies asset data, and communicates with staff, customers, regulatory agencies, and Work Management to ensure efficient operations.
Technical Repair and Maintenance: Performs advanced troubleshooting, installation, and repair of Fire Alarm and Fire Sprinkler systems, control panels, alarm devices, and related equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic drawings. Ensures work complies with NFPA 72 and NFPA 25.
Testing and Preventive Maintenance: Conducts and documents required testing and inspections of Fire Alarm and Fire Sprinkler systems. Coordinates annual and quarterly inspection schedules, reviews deficiency reports, and works with vendors, regulatory/compliance representatives, EH&S, and UPD to ensure timely correction of issues. Maintains records in the AiM system.
Administration and Vendor Coordination: Assists with estimates, purchase requisitions, and vendor quoting. Communicates with leadership, other shops, and
contractors to coordinate project work and system shutdowns. Supports budget tracking and material ordering for shop operations.
Mentorship and Training: Provides guidance, technical support, and mentorship to Fire Alarm and Fire Sprinkler staff. Conducts shop safety meetings and encourages professional development and cross-training between trades.
Other Duties and Emergency Response: Provides support to other trades by enabling/disabling systems for maintenance or construction activities. Operates UF vehicles and testing equipment; responds to emergency calls and after-hours events as required.
Valid Florida Class E Driver License Required.
Post-offer health assessment and Criminal background check Required.
Fire Alarm System Agent (FASA) training.
NCCER Core Certification (or equivalent trade certification).
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (40 hours per week).
Performs emergency work and on-call duty as required.
Position is designated Essential Personnel under UF Policy.
