Job Description:

The Senior Biological Scientist will support Dr. Zaghloul in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology, by drafting, editing, and submitting grant proposals and research manuscripts. The role involves managing submissions for NIH and other federal, foundation, and internal funding opportunities, tracking new prospects, and ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines.

Research Design and Experimental Work
Design and plan laboratory experiments related to Dr. Zaghloul’s research in neonatal neuroscience and translational science. Develop and optimize experimental protocols and analyze experimental data using appropriate statistical and bioinformatics tools; interpret findings in the context of project goals.

Grant Development and Submission

Draft, edit, and submit grant proposals for ongoing and new research projects in accordance with sponsor guidelines (NIH, SBIR, NSF, DoD, and foundation sources). Develop research aims, experimental approaches, and methodology sections that accurately reflect scientific objectives. Track funding opportunities and coordinate timelines for proposal submission. Work collaboratively with investigators and administrative staff to ensure compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements.

Data Analysis, Reporting, and Publication
Compile, analyze, and interpret scientific data for internal reports, manuscripts, and presentations. Collaborate with investigators to translate experimental results into publication-quality materials. Draft, edit, and submit research manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, integrating figures, tables, and statistical results.

Laboratory and Research Support
Oversee compliance with safety, biosafety, and institutional regulations. Contribute to lab meetings and research planning sessions.

               
Expected Salary:

$55,859-$60,531 annually

               
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field and seven years of experience or Master’s degree in biology or a related field with five year of experience. Doctoral degree in biology or related field with two years of experience.

               
Preferred:

• Highly organized multitasker with strong attention to detail and a focus on efficiency and productivity.
• Demonstrated record of successful grant acquisition and strong skills in grant and manuscript writing.
• Familiarity with databases and statistical computing programs.
• Experience in neuroscience, with knowledge across both clinical and translational research.
• Flexibility in writing and adapting content for grants and manuscripts across clinical and translational research domains.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
