Postdoctoral Associate

Classification Minimum Requirements: A doctorate degree in an appropriate scientific discipline is required.
Job Description:

The Kang Lab develops next-generation imaging technologies to map the molecular and structural architecture of the brain with nanoscale precision. We integrate Expansion Microscopy (ExM) with neurobiology to uncover mechanisms of synaptic function and dysfunction in neurological disorders—including Alzheimer’s disease, autism spectrum disorder, and Parkinson’s disease—using both mouse models and human brain tissues.

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to advance ExM technologies and apply them to multimodal molecular mapping of healthy and diseased brains. The successful candidate will work closely with basic science, translational, and clinical collaborators; analyze large-scale imaging datasets; contribute to grant proposals and manuscript preparation; and mentor students and trainees working on related projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and optimize ExM protocols for diverse biological and pathological specimens.
  • Apply ExM to mouse and human brain tissues.
  • Perform optical microscopy imaging on expanded specimens.
  • Process, analyze, and interpret imaging datasets to derive meaningful biological and clinical insights.
  • Contribute to manuscript preparation, grant applications, and scientific reports.
  • Collaborate with lab members and external collaborators.
  • Identify challenges and propose innovative technical or conceptual solutions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience.

Required Qualifications: A doctorate degree in an appropriate scientific discipline is required.
Preferred:
  • At least three years of experience in immunofluorescence staining, confocal or optical microscopy, and/or tissue processing (sectioning, clearing, expansion).
  • Broad knowledge of biospecimen chemistry, tissue handling, and molecular labeling strategies.
  • Experience with scientific programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python) and image analysis software (e.g., FIJI/ImageJ).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and scientific judgment.
  • Outstanding attention to detail, organization, documentation, and time management.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
