Job Description: |
Our group investigates the molecular mechanisms that bacteria have evolved to defend against phages and other genetic parasites. We use bioinformatics, functional assays, molecular biology, structural biology, and biochemistry to dissect these systems at the molecular level, with the long-term goal of translating fundamental discoveries into new biomedical technologies.
The successful candidate will apply expertise in protein purification, biophysics, and single-molecule methods to drive experimental projects and develop new RNA/protein assays. This position is well-suited for a researcher with advanced training who thrives in a collaborative, innovation-driven environment and seeks opportunities for leadership and authorship on publications. Depending on performance, the role may transition into longer-term career development opportunities within the lab.
Responsibilities
- Design and perform biochemical and biophysical experiments to probe RNA/protein interactions.
- Express, purify, and characterize proteins for single-molecule and biochemical assays.
- Develop and optimize fluorescence-based single-molecule techniques (TIRF, FRET, imaging-FCS).
- Contribute to the mechanistic characterization of bacterial phage defense systems.
- Analyze and interpret complex spectroscopy and imaging datasets (MATLAB, Origin, ImageJ, etc.).
- Mentor junior researchers in molecular biology, microscopy, and data analysis.
- Present findings in lab meetings, contribute to manuscripts, and assist with grant preparation.
- Manage day-to-day laboratory operations, including ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
