Job Description: |
The UF College of Dentistry is accepting applications for a Clinical Financial Counselor position in the Department of Oral Surgery. This position is responsible for financial collections, CPT/ICD-9/ADA coding, and filing insurance claims for services rendered.
Job Duties:
- Review daily explanation of benefits from both medical and dental policies; communicate (verbal and/or in writing) with insurance companies for appeals or reconsiderations of unpaid or incorrectly reimbursed claims; responsible for reviewing the college’s electronic claims, prior to submission for error edits; incumbent will be responsible for correcting oral surgery edits and is responsible for identifying and forwarding other departments their; monitoring and working department accounts receivables via reports.
- Perform oral surgery charge entry for Operating Room procedures, In-Patient and Emergency Room visits with utilizing appropriate ADA, CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 coding.
- Interview and counsel patients who are to be treated in the Oral Surgery and Implant Center to determine financial status and/or insurance coverage as needed. Verify insurance coverage for each patient and determine if services to be provided are covered and/or non-covered according to individual insurance policies, as needed. Verify account information in our computer system to ensure accuracy and update accounts as necessary.
- Intermittent clinical charge entry during backlog and/or staffing shortages for oral surgery and implant Center and as needed.
- Obtain a copy of the patient’s insurance card and complete all forms required by third-party payers. Input insurance information into the computer system to ensure correct billing for treatment provided.

Expected Salary: |
$20.00 - $23.00 per hour; commensurate with education and experience

Required Qualifications: |
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of related experience and/or training, including customer service; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred: |
- A bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience.
- CPC (Certified Procedural Coder) certification
- Knowledge of various rules, regulations, and procedures for billing private insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid for patient treatment.
- Experience with insurance billing.
- Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.
- Aptitude for effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Capacity for understanding and applying applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
