Job Description:

RNA scope and Protein Chemistry

Assist with planning, designing, and conducting advanced research projects primarily involving RNA-scope of neurons and wide-field microscopy. Perform recombinant DNA techniques including isolation and purification of plasmid DNA, restriction enzymatic analysis of DNA, PCR, qPCR, bacterial transformations, agarose gel electrophoresis, and transformation; Protein Biochemistry including SDS-PAGE, Western Blotting and ELISA.

Cell Culture and Cellular Biology

Perform research experiments investigating mechanisms of action of channel interfering compounds in rodent nociceptors; perform mammalian cell transfections; mammalian cell culture techniques, and confocal and wide-field microscopy.

Research Project Coordination

Acts as a liaison between the PI/Director, lab staff, and collaborators within UF and externally. Assists with special studies or projects assigned and helps coordinate activities for ongoing research projects. Ensures understanding of and compliance with required laboratory regulations, including ACS, EH&S, IACUC, UF, State, and Federal guidelines. Maintains accurate records and legal documentation in line with institutional policies, such as biological and chemical safety policies. Supports the ordering process to promote efficient and cost-effective use of grant funding, maintains lab supply inventory for scheduled research projects, and assists with researching products and comparing vendor prices.

Scientific Writing and Dissemination

Analyze data and assemble results for scientific publications, grants, and conference presentations; assist in preparing data for scientific manuscripts, abstracts, grants, and other documents; manage accurate and complete laboratory research records and prepare daily written reports of experimental results; assist laboratory research with searches for and review of scientific literature relevant to the research focus of the laboratory. Aids in the development of new research and laboratory protocols.

Expected Salary:

$19.20 - $20.11 per hour

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related life science field.

Preferred: Extensive experience with RNA scope, protein chemistry, and sterile cell culture of mammalian cells
Special Instructions to Applicants:

Monday – Friday 8 AM – 5 PM; Work after hours, on weekends, and holidays will be required as
determined by experimental protocols.
