Job Description: |
The Instructional Designer III in Geomatics provides both local and statewide support to Geomatics faculty in teaching and administering Geomatics courses and labs at the WFREC. The position acts as lead instructor for field labs and provides classroom and technology-based trainings to meet organization and student needs. The position works with FFGS faculty and staff in maintaining the Geomatics undergraduate and graduate curriculum. The ID-III in Geomatics recruits and guides prospective students through the admission process and advises current students and program staff in career planning and meeting curriculum requirements necessary for graduation. The position also explores opportunities for new academic offerings (e.g., certificates, degrees) based upon input from the professional community. Responsibilities may require weekend and/or evening delivery of courses and labs.
The ID-III in Geomatics at WFREC supports the statewide Geomatics Extension program by developing/delivering a local extension/outreach program at WFREC across the West Florida region. Efforts will be aimed at recruiting and training current and future surveying/mapping technicians in West Florida through the development of comprehensive learning and training programs. The position coordinates closely with the Geomatics Extension program director, attends and coordinates meetings with the local surveying societies and GIS professional groups, and assists in knowledge transfer. The position acts as a liaison between the educational community and the professional geospatial community, measures outcomes of outreach workforce development events, and is responsible for promotional efforts at the local level through a range of venues and modes of communication. Responsibilities may require weekend and evening extension and training activities to meet stakeholder needs.
The ID-III in Geomatics develops and maintains office and field equipment inventory related to spatial data collection and analysis and provides related guidance for teaching needs to deliver Geomatics learning and training programs. The position coordinates closely with the WFREC Director and personnel to establish a presence for the Geomatics Program in West Florida and deliver quality educational and extension programs that advance the mission of UF/IFAS. This position will ensure that appropriate software, hardware, and field equipment are accessible in the WFREC labs and courseware standards are met. The ID-III in Geomatics explores needs and advises Geomatics/FFGS administration on the purchase of geomatics data, equipment, and software needed for teaching activities at the WFREC.
Additional duties will be assigned by the immediate supervisor and FFGS director.
The normal schedule will be 40 hours a week, which will include evenings and weekends, depending on the teaching schedule and extension needs. Some travel to the main Gainesville campus and other locations in Florida may be needed for training, workshops, and meetings.

Expected Salary: |
$75,000 - $90,000 commensurate with education and experience
|
Required Qualifications: |
Master's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and six years of relevant experience.

Preferred: |
Professional Surveyor and Mapper License; experience in distance education and teaching surveying field labs; established record of working with the professional surveying community to provide continuing education and identify strategic training needs.
