Job Description:

The Health Promotion Specialist, Disability Resource Center (DRC), will be a member of the professional team for Disability Resource Center, GatorWell Health Promotion Services, and the Division of Student Life. The Health Promotion Specialist, Disability Resource Center will be responsible for being the main Wellness Coach for students who utilize the Disability Resource Center. They will also help in developing, implementing, facilitating, and providing educational programming, initiatives, and workshops for students who utilize the Disability Resource Center. Duties shall include conducting Wellness Coaching for students, advising the DRC student group Disability Ambassadors, advising a graduate student employee, presenting at various events and programs, and engaging with student who utilize the Disability Resource Center to promote optimal wellbeing and healthy decision making. Students who utilize the Disability Resource Center at the University of Florida consists of over 8,000 students. 

  • Conducting Wellness Coaching for Academic Success for students who utilize the Disability Resource Center.  

  • Providing individual student services for the DRC community, as aligned with GatorWell, such as Wellness Coaching, and one-time consultations. 

  • Creating, developing, implementing, and evaluating theory-based and evidence-informed health promotion strategies, policies, programs and services to best support the DRC community. This will include creating presentations and workshops, presenting, and engaging with a variety of groups and individuals. This involves tailoring programming to fit the experiences and needs of these different groups and individuals.  

  • Providing support for large-scale Disability Resource Center programming and events, as well as operational needs of GatorWell and DRC.  

  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health promotion in the DRC community. Topics for education and health promotion may include lifelong wellbeing, alcohol and other drug risk reduction, sexual health, stress management, time management, self-confidence, etc. 

  • Contributing, collecting, and maintaining data tracking and report development related to health promotion strategies, trends, programs, education, and services in the DRC community both at the University of Florida and across the country; and support grant funding and reporting. 
    Contributing to the division and university through active participation on committees and division-wide initiatives (example opportunities: emergency dean on call, event support team, conduct committee, student welcome events, etc.)    

  • Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

This position will be supervised by, and work in collaboration with both an Administrative and Functional Supervisor as a GatorWell Health Promotion Services employee embedded in the Disability Resource Center. They will have consistent communication with their supervisors through regular meetings.  

Expected Salary:

54,000.00/year

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in an appropriate area; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred:
  • Master's degree in public health, health promotion, health policy or health education; degrees in other health related fields may be considered 

  • Experience in a higher education environment.   

  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH) 

  • Certified Wellness Coach (or eligible and intent to become certified).  

  • Experience conducting needs assessments and using results to guide programmatic decisions  

  • Experience with design, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion programs, especially those in the DRC community. 

  • Knowledge of the American College Health Association’s Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education (ACHA SPHPHE) and the Healthy Campus Framework.  

  • Demonstrated skills in developing and targeting health promotion initiatives and educational materials for various college students, especially those in the DRC community. 

  • Demonstrated skills in a variety of educational methods (e.g., presentations, workshops, trainings, individual behavior change sessions and small group discussion/facilitation);  

  • Supervisory and organizational skills; and assessment tools; and to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, on campus and in the community.
