Job Description:

The University of Florida (UF) Department of Epidemiology seeks a diligent, detail-oriented individual to work as a Marketing and Communications Specialist for the UF HealthStreet and National Drug Early Warning System (NDEWS) projects. Position is responsible for managing the relevant social media and website accounts and functions as the primary voice/editor for communications and marketing efforts. Works alongside project staff to execute timely marketing and communications goals. Promotes the visibility of UF HealthStreet and NDEWS through social media, publications, newsletters, websites, national town halls/webinars, and promotional materials to disseminate each program’s initiatives and support the project missions. 

Marketing and Communications duties for UF HealthStreet program – Collaborates with leadership in developing marketing materials by identifying communication needs. Ensures consistency and effectiveness in leading the production of communications materials. Evaluates promotional programs for contribution to program objectives. Position responsible for monitoring online metrics, updating and monitoring website content, using such interfaces as WordPress, MailPoet and Mailster, and including editing existing pages and creating new pages as needed. Makes updates to include recently featured news stories on the website and social media and updates website archives. Responsible for creating, writing and posting original content on social media accounts, including taking photographs and utilizing online software for graphic material. Promotes program initiatives and reports metrics to the team. Creates a biweekly newsletter and manages a subscription list of more than 7,000 subscribers Coordinates and executes online Zoom town halls called Our Community, Our Health (OCOH), including securing panelists, creating an advertising campaign, and preparing a script for panelists and moderator. Adds pre- and post-event survey questions to the webinar and reports afterward on the advertising campaign and number of attendees. Also coordinates and executes an annual Night of Dance event with an expected attendance of 500 or more people. Arranges location and secures partners for tabling and performing. Creates an advertising campaign to include multiple sources such as social media, emails, newsletter, radio coverage and flyers. Manages the event onsite, including Community Health Workers, volunteers, performers, partners and food vendors, including overseeing setup and cleanup, and creates a final report afterward. Position attends multiple meetings in this role, ranging from weekly (HealthStreet), to monthly (Partnership for the Advancement of Community Engaged Research), to quarterly (Community Advisory Board).

Marketing and Communications duties for National Drug Early Warning System project - Collaborates with leadership in developing marketing materials by identifying communication needs. Ensures consistency and effectiveness in leading the production of communications materials. Evaluates promotional programs for contribution to program objectives. Position responsible for monitoring online metrics, updating and monitoring website content, using such interfaces as WordPress, MailPoet and Mailster. Edits existing pages and creates new pages as needed. Makes updates to include recently featured news stories on the website and social media and updates website archives. Responsible for creating, writing and posting original content on social media accounts, including utilizing online software for graphic material. Promotes program initiatives and reports metrics to the team weekly. Working with project staff, creates a weekly email briefing for a list of more than approximately 6,000 subscribers, which is posted every Friday morning on the website and social media. Content currently consists of original content, such as web monitoring alerts, Rapid Street Reporting visit summaries, and reports on EMS dispatch data trends. Manages biostatistical content prepared by others and fixes errors in reports from Data Management Analyst and others. Research recently published scientific manuscripts and news articles related to drug use trends and novel psychoactive substances, for inclusion in the weekly briefing. Coordinates and executes regular webinar series covering emerging drug trends, including aiding in promoting the series. Oversees undergraduate volunteers assigned to assist with promotional efforts, including outreach to potential briefing subscribers. Attends weekly project team meetings in addition to twice yearly meetings of the Scientific Advisory Group, Sentinel Site Directors, and Community-Based Health Experts (a recently added expert group).

Expected Salary:

$65,000 - $68,000 commensurate with education, skills, and experience.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and four years of relevant experience; or an associate’s degree and six years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Position will require flexibility in evening hours, particularly Thursday nights, due to project needs, especially for publishing of weekly briefing, and may require weekends with advance notice, especially for Night of Dance.
