Bachelors degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Masters degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.

Job Description:
  • Conducts field research related to restoration of the Everglades and the ecology of South Florida, in accordance with stipulated protocols and quality and safety standards. Participates in projects with emphasis on the American crocodile and American alligator, Argentine tegus, Nile monitors, spectacled caiman, Burmese pythons, and other invasive wildlife.
  • Maintains accurate records of research methods, procedures and results. Participates in data management. Collaborates in the preparation of reports, publications, and presentations.
  • Maintains field equipment and vehicles including 4-wheel drive trucks, motor boats, and airboats in good operating order.
  • Applies for and manages permits and approvals required to perform research and outreach.
  • Performs and supervises necropsies of invasive reptiles to evaluate diet, fecundity, and overall body condition and health.
  • Supplying husbandry and care for different reptile species for educational and public outreach events.
  • Instructions are written and verbal. This position supervises technicians, volunteers, and interns.

40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5pm. Hours may vary depending on the optimal time to conduct field activities. Occasional overnights and weekends.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.

Driver's license, federal certification in airboat and motorboat operation. Certification in CPR and wilderness first aid.

Preferred:

Experience navigating off-trail with aid of a GPS and compass. Ability to operate 4 wheel-drive vehicle, motor boats, and airboats.
