Job Description:

Perform nPOD and CARE-T1D donor chart data extraction. Review all donor documentation received with each case and extract all relevant clinical and social history, radiology, and lab values and compile into a summary for each donor. Enter this data in all nPOD and CARE-T1D databases to be made available to investigators.

Schedule, organize documentation for, and participate in donor chart reviews to classify the diagnosis for each nPOD and CARE-T1D donor.

Participate in detailed three-dimensional examination of the morphology of intact human pancreatic tissue at the cellular level. Study islet function under physiological conditions or after exposure to a variety of conditions. Generate, collect, and analyze experimental data. Use vibratome, microtome, perifusion system, confocal microscope and fluorescent microscope to assess tissue viability. Data obtained will be made available to the nPOD investigators network to further the understanding of the pathophysiology of type 1 diabetes. Responsible for CARE-T1D sample quality control.

Participate in on-call schedule for nPOD and CARE-T1D projects. Perform case processing, including receipt of tissue, dissections, fixation, freezing, cell isolation. Use microCT to scan organs and tissues. Perform DNA isolation. Coordinate and prepare DNA shipments to collaborating labs for high-resolution HLA testing and genetic panels of interest for nPOD and CARE-T1D projects.

Review scientific literature to maintain and further the understanding of Core technologies. Provide help to nPOD and CaRe-T1D researchers with core data analysis using specialized data analysis software. Data will be used for further statistical analysis and/or publications.

Evaluate new equipment to determine if it meets OPPC specifications. Assist with routing lab maintenance including ordering supplies, calibrating and checking equipment for proper function. Assist with periodic preventative maintenance on Core instruments. Troubleshoot equipment failures and arrange for, or help with, repairs.

Assist in training and assessing new OPPC staff. Edit and write SOPs
Expected Salary:

$55,000 - $59,000 per year. Commensurate with education and experience. 

Required Qualifications: MS required or 5 years science related, core specific advanced training and work experience and/or post-graduate coursework. Requires at least 3 years in core facility specific applications and at least 2 years of that in research-based technology. Work experience in multi-user core facility preferred. Core or technology specific licensure and/or certifications where applicable. Additionally yearly certificate and compliance training if required.
Preferred:

MS required or 7 years science related, core specific advanced training and work experience and/or post-graduate coursework. Requires at least 3 years in core facility specific applications and at least 2 years of that in research-based technology. Work experience in multi-user core facility preferred.

Experience working with fresh tissue, vibratome, microtome, perfusion system, confocal microscope. High attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

High proficiency in MS Office, especially Access, Excel, and Powerpoint. Experience with GraphPad Prism. Ability to maintain accurate records and inventories across multiple platforms.

Interpersonal/human relations skills – must be able to work collaboratively with others
