Job Description: |
The Agricultural and Biological Engineering department is seeking an Education/Training Specialist with a focus on beginner farming coordination and teaching. This position will be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering training programs for the Florida Inmate Workforce Initiative. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing support to the Florida AgrAbility Program (FAP), a collaborative project between the University of Florida (UF) and the Center for Independent Living of North Central Florida (CILNCF). This position will be expected to coordinate with state and local government organizations, agricultural businesses, UF Extension, community-based organizations, and health care providers.
Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:
- Collaborate with faculty and other subject matter experts on program development, design, and delivery of beginner farming curriculum.
- Work with the project team to track the progress of work plans within the established budget
- Proactively manage training status reporting and communications regarding ongoing changes in training scope and document risks, actions, issues, and decisions. Create and deliver progress reports and requirements documentation.
- Provide support for home and worksite assessments and use farming knowledge to help identify ways people with disabilities can continue farming safely and successfully by providing Assistive Technologies (AT) information and suggestions.
- Leverage farming knowledge to provide service coordination between state and local government organizations, agricultural businesses, UF Extension, community-based organizations, and health care providers.

Required Qualifications: |
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred: |
The ideal candidate will possess the following experience and skills:
- Traditional and non-traditional classroom experience teaching older youth or adults using multiple modalities.
- Experience and comfort with correctional facilities, including ability to fulfill Department of Corrections mandatory employment trainings or other certification courses as required to deliver curricula.
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, project management, and implementation skills.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, as well as presentation and interpersonal skills for proposing actions, analyzing risks, and influencing and facilitating sustained change.
- Personal and/or professional experiences with people who have disabilities (that affect farmers, agricultural equipment usage, and best practices related to agricultural safety and health) are preferred but not required.
- Working knowledge of various aspects of farming and agriculture (e.g., equipment, crops, animals, organic, conventional, production, distribution, etc.).
- Current experience with UF/IFAS Extension programs, youth development, experiential learning, and accessibility for persons with disabilities.
- Work with the project team to develop and track the progress of work plans to ensure timely, high-quality project deliverables within the established time frame and budget.
- Advanced experience to establish and maintain relationships with state and local government organizations, agricultural businesses, UF/IFAS Extension faculty and staff, community-based organizations, health care providers, and Florida Department of Corrections personnel.
- Accountability and self-management: should be motivated and able to work with limited direct supervision
