Job Description:

Experimental Modification and Execution: Refines experimental plans to investigate complex microfluidic systems and their applications in bacterial culture and molecular biology. Conducts experiments using microfluidic devices, such as microchannels, microarrays, and microreactors. Troubleshoots experimental issues and optimizes experimental conditions to achieve desired outcomes.

Cultivates and manipulates bacteria using various techniques, including PCR, DNA sequencing, and gene expression analysis. Prepares and analyzes molecular biology samples, including DNA, RNA, and protein extracts. Utilizes standard laboratory equipment, such as microscopes, spectrophotometers, and thermocyclers.

Optimizes protocols for preparing high-quality libraries for next-generation sequencing. Utilizes various library preparation kits and protocols to achieve desired outcomes. Modifies library preparation optimize conditions and achieve high-quality libraries. Maintains accurate and detailed records of laboratory experiments, including protocols, results, and conclusions. Tracks and manages laboratory inventory, including equipment, reagents, and supplies.

Data Generation and Analysis: Conducts experiments to generate high-quality data, including microfluidic, molecular biology, and sequencing data. Analyzes experimental data to identify trends, patterns, and correlations. Utilizes statistical software and programming languages to analyze and visualize data. Collaborates with team members to analyze and interpret large datasets. Ensures data integrity and security by following standard laboratory protocols and guidelines. Maintains accurate and detailed records of data analysis and interpretation. Refines computational analysis protocols to achieve desired outcomes. Troubleshoots computational issues and optimizes conditions to achieve high-quality results. Utilizes programming languages to analyze and visualize data. Maintains accurate and detailed records of computational analysis and interpretation.

Literature Review and Manuscript Preparation:  Conducts thorough and up-to-date literature reviews on relevant topics, including microfluidics, molecular biology, and sequencing. Identifies key research findings, trends, and gaps in current knowledge. Aids in writing and revising manuscript content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and coherence. Creates high-quality figures, tables, and other visual aids to support manuscript content. Ensures manuscript integrity and security by following standard laboratory protocols and guidelines. Maintains accurate and detailed records of manuscript preparation and submission.

Mentorship and Collaboration: Provides guidance and support to undergraduate students and technicians in laboratory research. Mentors students and technicians on experimental design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. Collaborates with cooperative researchers at the USDA and other institutions.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor degree in biology or a related field and three years of experience or Master degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience.

Preferred:

Excellent written and verbal skills. Experience in microfluidics, microbiology and molecular biology.
