Job Description: |
The mission of the CTSI Biorepository is to procure, process, and distribute tumor tissue and other human specimens to research investigators at the University of Florida and beyond. Additionally, the Biorepository also serves as a secure storage location for research specimens collected by various study teams at the University of Florida. The OPS Laboratory Technician will assist with sample procurement, dissection, preservation and distribution as well as general laboratory procedures. Primary duties include:
- Sample pick-up and delivery from the Operating Room to the Surgical Pathology Grossing Labs
- Dissecting and preserving human tissue as specified in Standard Operating Procedures
- Inventory management using the Biorepository database systems
- Specimen distribution within and outside UF which requires training in shipping of biological samples
- Provide information to investigators on inventory and other tasks relating to the of the Biorepository including laboratory maintenance
- Monitor and document instrument/equipment performance used in the CTSI Biorepository Laboratory
- Assist in writing and editing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for performing CTSI Biorepository Laboratory processes. Perform all laboratory processes according to written SOPs and document all data on appropriate forms
- Perform regular SOP and process verifications
- Perform scheduled Quality Assurance (QA) processes as required
- Perform specimen reconciliation, inventory and storage processes as needed
- Generate appropriate inventory reports using the Biorepository database
- Responsible for maintaining required documents in order and ensure that laboratory is operating in accordance with the regulatory requirements of the University, EH&S, IRB requirements and the College of American Pathologists Biorepository accreditation program
- Establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with pathologists, physicians, nurses, OR staff, surgical pathology staff and other medical and research professionals throughout the health system in order to maintain and further Biorepository partnerships and relationships

$14 - $20 Hourly
