Job Description:

The Prestigious Awards Advisor serves as the first point of contact for identifying and recruiting undergraduate and graduate students to apply for nationally and internationally competitive fellowships and scholarships such as the Rhodes, Goldwater, Truman, Marshall, and Fulbright U.S. Student Program. This position supports students throughout the application process for awards that contribute to the academic prestige of the university. Responsibilities include one-on-one and group advising, teaching workshops for prospective applicants, improving outreach to academic departments and colleges to identify top talent, and coordinating campus-wide selection and endorsement processes.

The advisor must have strong skills in teaching students to write and communicate effectively for scholarly and professional audiences, including providing thoughtful written and verbal feedback on application materials. A broad understanding of the university’s academic disciplines is essential, as the advisor will organize faculty screening committees based on students’ academic interests, curate appropriate interview questions, and draft institutional endorsement letters for the Provost or President’s office, as required by specific awards.

This position is housed in UF Student Success, a unit within the Office of the Provost that collaborates with the campus community to enhance undergraduate learning and achievement. Staff in UF Student Success support institutional initiatives by serving on committees, advising students, and teaching interdisciplinary courses and programs. Their work fosters strong connections among administration, faculty, staff, and students, promotes academic persistence and excellence, and advances the university’s mission and core values in support of undergraduate education.

The advisor will also assist the Associate Provost and Senior Associate In for UF Student Success in supporting university-wide academic advising and student success initiatives. These may include Preview advising and presentations, academic coaching, and other duties as assigned.
