Job Description:

The University of Florida College of Medicine is seeking a strategic, experienced HR leader to serve as Director of Human Resources. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer for the College of Medicine, this high-impact role oversees HR operations for one of the university’s most complex academic and clinical environments, supporting over 5,000 employees across education, research, and patient care. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of academic medicine, proven success leading HR strategy in a matrixed organization, and the ability to build trusted partnerships with senior leadership and health system stakeholders.

The University of Florida College of Medicine (COM) is seeking a forward-thinking, relationship-driven HR leader to serve as its next Director of Human Resources. This is a highly visible, high-impact role — one that requires more than just HR expertise. It demands someone who understands the complexity of academic medicine, appreciates the nuance of faculty and healthcare operations, and is ready to lead with strategy, credibility, and purpose.

With over 5,000 employees and a $1.5B operating budget, COM is one of the most complex and dynamic environments at UF. The Director will oversee HR operations for the college, serve as a key advisor to senior leadership, and drive efforts that enhance workforce planning, operational efficiency, and organizational culture.

To succeed in this role, the Director must be able to navigate and build strong partnerships across a highly matrixed academic health system — including with department chairs, hospital leadership, the Provost’s Office, and legal counsel. They will be expected to translate institutional goals into people strategies that support faculty, staff, residents, and graduate assistants across the clinical, research, and education missions. Leading a high-performing HR team, the Director will also be responsible for advancing new models for service delivery, compliance, and strategic collaboration. This role requires deep expertise in areas ranging from policy development to employee relations to strategic workforce planning — and the discernment to know when to zoom in on the details or zoom out to see the broader picture.
