Job Description:

Mouse Colony Husbandry – Maintain mouse colony, genotype animals, and perform research on mouse knockout and knockin lines. Additional responsibilities include maintenance of transgenic mice used for gene therapy research and involvement in the generation of animal models for neuromuscular and neurological diseases.

Lab Manger Responsibilities – Duties include purchasing and budgeting lab supplies, maintaining accurate records, ordering radioisotopes and maintaining isotope record, research grant budget management and assisting PI with the preparation of yearly reports, hiring/training/supervising OPS technicians and assisting with orientation of rotating new graduate students and undergraduate volunteers.

RNA Processing Research – Duties include: growing/harvesting bacterial and mammalian cell cultures, preparation of plasmid DNA from bacteria and genomic DNA from eukaryotic cells, isolation of total and poly(A)+ RNA, agarose and acrylamide gel electrophoresis; Southern and Northern blotting, PCR amplification of DNA and modifying current/developing methodologies.

Regulatory Liaison – Acts as intermediary with ACS, IACUC, EHS, Radiation Control, Florida Board of Professional Regulation and DEA. Conducts yearly inventory of laboratory chemicals, controlled substances and quarterly inventory of radioisotopes.

Expected Salary:

Annual salary range is $45,600 - $59,262 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

BA or BS in Biology, Chemistry or Genetics and prior lab experience.
