Are you passionate about providing medical care to shelter and rescue animals? We are seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician to join our Veterinary Community Outreach Program (VCOP). This role offers the opportunity to work closely with clinicians and students, providing necessary care to adoptable pets and contributing to a strong teaching environment. Role Overview: As a Veterinary Technician in the VCOP, you will introduce students to the challenges of veterinary practice in both community and shelter environments. You will gain experience in spay and neuter techniques, as well as preventative medicine for canines and felines. This fast-paced area emphasizes teaching, with technicians providing support by assisting veterinarians with exams, treatments, anesthesia, and surgery, as well as offering insight, instruction, and demonstration to veterinary students.
Responsibilities: Provide veterinary technician support for VCOP Perform general nursing care such as venipuncture, catheter placement, patient restraint, treatments, medication administration, and sample collection Document in electronic medical records Perform anesthetic nursing skills such as intubation, advanced anesthesia monitoring, and local and regional blocks Accurately perform drug and fluid calculations Ensure patients are prepped for surgery in accordance with hospital standards in a timely fashion Assemble surgical supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures Maintain accurate anesthesia records Monitor and maintain aseptic techniques Qualifications:
Passionate about veterinary care for shelter and rescue animals Excellent communication skills Proactive and well-organized Ability to adapt quickly to a changing environment Good base knowledge of veterinary medicine Positive attitude and professionalism Schedule:
