Job Description:

The University of Florida's Upward Bound Math & Science Program is seeking a passionate and experienced educator to join our team as a Hydroponics Grant Education and Outreach Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging lessons on hydroponics, sustainable agriculture, and plant science for high school students.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement engaging lessons on hydroponics, sustainable agriculture, and plant science for high school students.
  • Lead hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences in hydroponic systems, plant growth, and environmental science.
  • Guide students in conducting experiments, collecting data, and analyzing results related to hydroponic farming.
  • Integrate STEM concepts, including biology, chemistry, and engineering, into the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with UF-UBMS staff to align instruction with program goals and student academic needs.
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining hydroponic equipment and classroom materials.
  • Provide mentorship and academic support to students interested in agricultural science careers.
Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in agricultural science, biology, environmental science, education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching or working with high school students.
  • Must be available on Saturdays during the academic year, and for the Summer STEM Institute.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in agricultural science, biology, environmental science, education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching in a STEM-focused program.
  • Strong understanding of hydroponics, plant biology, and sustainable agriculture.
Special Instructions to Applicants:

This is a part-time, grant-funded position, and is subject to renewal based on funding availability. Availability on Saturdays during the academic year and for the Summer STEM Institute, is required.
