Job Description:

Assists in editing departmental documents and manuscripts, assists in submitting manuscripts to journals using web-based electronic submission programs, runs manuscripts through iThenticate for similarity reports, and processes requests for copyright and reprint permission.

Writes announcements and stories for email, website, and social media platforms. Assists in creating website content, taking departmental photographs and videos, and conducting website maintenance. Assists in scheduling and posting to the department social media platforms.

Assists in the creation of graphics, charts, figures, etc., and edits pictures for web and social. Assists in transforming verbal and written information into artwork. Designs and prepares content for posters, flyers, newsletters, brochures, etc.

Assists in the creation and publishing of monthly department e-newsletters and the yearly print newsletter.

Edits department research posters and slide presentations for various conferences.

Assists the chair and vice chair of the department and the manager of the Communications and Publishing Office in special projects as needed.

Expected Salary:

$20.11-$24.90; commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential.

Editing experience is highly encouraged. Editing experience in the medical/STEM fields is a plus. Testing of editing skills will occur.

College degree (BA) in English, journalism, or related field is preferred.

Strong written and verbal skills are necessary. Writing samples or samples of copyediting work are strongly encouraged. 

Knowledge of website content management systems and Adobe Creative Suite desirable to allow modifications of figures, creation of graphics, etc.

Knowledge of index services for publications such as PubMed, Google Scholar, online journal databases, etc. is preferred.
