Job Description:

Administrative Leadership & Operational Oversight

  • Provide work management and administrative direction for custodial services, ensuring all facilities meet high sanitation and cleanliness standards, including offices, event spaces, and public areas
  • Supervise and lead custodial staff, set performance expectations, and provide direction for goal achievement
  • Develop long-range custodial service plans, including staffing levels, work priorities, and cleaning techniques
  • Oversee budgeting, cost projections, purchasing, and financial controls for custodial operations
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures, including safety and work quality standards, hazardous material handling, and sustainability initiatives
  • Formulate service contracts and specifications for equipment, cleaning supplies, and services, ensuring compliance with university purchasing guidelines
  • Evaluate and monitor new cleaning products, equipment, and methodologies for operational efficiency
  • Coordinate services with other campus departments, including waste management, pest controls, and grounds services, as needed

Staff Supervision & Workflow Management

  • Plan, implement, and adjust custodial work shift schedules to ensure efficient workforce utilization
  • Monitor daily operations and implement continuous improvements in cleaning methods, work activities, and performance standards
  • Conduct service needs assessments, analyze results, and implement solutions for enhanced efficiency
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff on safety, cleaning standards, customer service, and the proper use of equipment and supplies
  • Oversee new employee orientation, ensure compliance with workplace safety standards, and maintain up to date material safety data sheets
  • Handle employee performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and human resource matters, ensuring alignment with university policies

Quality Assurance & Facility Inspection

  • Establish and enforce high-quality custodial work standards for both internal staff and external vendors
  • Conduct regular facility inspections and take corrective actions to maintain cleanliness, safety, and security
  • Investigate and respond to service requests, complaints, and feedback from building occupants and customers to ensure prompt resolution

Special projects and other duties

  • Plan and execute special cleaning projects, collaborating with external vendors as necessary
  • Develop and oversee facility-wide recycling programs and other sustainability initiatives
  • Prepare and analyze management reports, incident reports, and custodial service assessments
  • Coordinate the setup and cleaning of event spaces, ensuring readiness for meetings and special functions
  • Collaborate with university departments and vendors to maintain high standards for custodial and facility services
Expected Salary:

$58,000 - $60,000; Commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in managing a large team
  • Understanding of budgeting practices
  • Proficiency in operating and using various custodial cleaning equipment
  • Awareness of current cleaning methods, products, and materials including chemicals, and general knowledge of handling and disposing of hazardous materials
  • Familiarity with building cleaning including but not limited to floor care, wall surfaces, windows, offices, restrooms, food areas, meeting and assembly spaces, and common areas
  • Proficiency with computers and basic software applications
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Experience in training and managing housekeeping employees
  • Strong planning and organization skills
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign tasks, and ensure proper completion of work assignments
  • Capability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Skill in handling multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Work as part of a team

  • Flexibility to adjust schedule is required due to department needs
