Job Description:

The post-doctoral associate will work full-time At the University of Florida main campus in Gainesville. The scope of work will include the geotechnical investigation of tidal mud flats and muddy shorelines through geotechnical laboratory testing and in-situ geotechnical testing using Cone Penetration Testing and Free Fall Penetrometer testing.  The work will be performed under the general supervision of Dr. Nina Stark, head of the coastal geotechnics research group at the Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure and Environment (ESSIE) at the University of Florida.

Candidates with strong background in geotechnical laboratory testing and in-situ geotechnical testing and/or coastal and offshore geotechnics will be considered for this position. A strong commitment to publication of results and previous involvement in interdisciplinary research is desired.

Background on project:

The successful candidate will be heavily involved in a research project funded by the Office of Naval Research with focus on understanding the processes that govern geotechnical properties and trafficability of tidal mudflats and muddy shorelines. The project team includes primary investigators from different disciplines including biology, chemistry, physical oceanography, and geotechnical engineering. The project will include field data collection and soil sampling in at least 5 different environments. The successful candidate is expected to take a significant role in the geotechnical data collection and analysis, interdisciplinary data fusion and analysis, publication of results. The project has an expected duration of 5 years.

Expected Salary:

$60,000 commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

 PhD in related field



Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with strong background in geotechnical laboratory testing and in-situ geotechnical testing and/or coastal and offshore geotechnics will be considered for this position. A strong commitment to publication of results and previous involvement in interdisciplinary research is desired.
