Job Description:

The UF Health Cancer Center is the 72nd NCI designated cancer center and the only one at a public university in the State of Florida. As a matrix cancer center, we span 11 of the University of Florida's 16 colleges, pulling together a world-class, multi-disciplinary membership of over 350 faculty and 150 staff to address the challenges of the cancer burden faced by the population we serve as we work together to find a cure.

As part of our Division of Research Intelligence, you will focus on the development and implementation of the Center’s custom resources and tools to analyze and display the Center’s data, assist in critical analyses, and enhance reporting capabilities, design, and management of data systems for the Center.

In your new role you will be responsible for the following:

  • Selecting and applying appropriate analytical methods to answer questions and test hypotheses as specified by clinical researchers, administrators, and clinicians.
  • Designing, coding, testing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting application software for use by Administration and leadership.
  • Identifying and analyzing problems, testing and debugging code, and troubleshooting applications.
  • Drafting technical documentation (designs, specifications, systems processes, etc.).
  • Learning and applying best of breed industry standards of analysis and development methodologies and for data management and quality control.
  • Retains a high level of expertise in data management techniques as well as university business processes through training opportunities and individual research.

This is a professional position ideal for candidates with experience in application development and/or systems analysis with a diverse skillset in data management, systems analysis, and application development. A complete job description will be provided to candidates selected for interview. 

Expected Salary:

$70,000 - $85,000; Commensurate with Education and Experience.

This is a TEAMS position, and is eligible for a suite of excellent benefits, retirement options, and paid leave.

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge/Experience:

  • A Bachelors’ degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar.
  • Three to five years’ experience in software development, systems analysis, and/or project management supporting applications in a complex business or academic research setting.
  • Awareness of current standard in IT and emerging technologies to include experience and knowledge of data discovery and visualization systems (eg. Tableau and/or Microsoft Power BI).
  • Experience with general statistical software, machine learning frameworks, data integration and business intelligence software, as well as clinical trials management systems and electronic medical record data feed standards.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding and proficiency with mySQL and/or SQL server databases, relevant web technologies (eg. basic HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript), scripting languages (eg. Python, Perl, R), and source control systems (eg. git and GitHub) as well as the Windows, Mac OS, and Linux operating systems.
  • Strong technical writing proficiency with the ability to communicate complex technical information to non-expert audiences and users.
  • Proficiency in UI/UX focused development of critical applications and resources to scope as well as the ability to articulate and demonstrate to non-expert audiences and users.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute custom development projects independently, design and develop complex, multi-tier applications with distributed modules, as well as develop robust integration with other mission-critical production applications.
  • Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills with ability to synthesize aggregate data into meaningful reports on outcomes for presentation to leadership groups and local government agencies.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills; leadership ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments with competing deadlines.
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite.
