The University of Florida Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics in the College of Medicine is recruiting a tenure track faculty at the Assistant Professor rank. We are seeking talented and innovative researcher to join the Division of Clinical and Population Health Integration (CliPlr) with a focus on neuroinformatics and artificial intelligence (AI) in aging and pain research.
CLiPlr is one of the three divisions in Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics. The Divisions’ mission is to conduct clinical and population-based research that integrates biomedical informatics and implementation sciences while supporting educational programs that improve health outcomes across the lifespan. Faculty collaborate to foster a vision of being a national leader in the development and utilization of innovative methods and approaches to conducting clinical interventions and translating findings into population health. CLiPlr conducts a broad range of research that include geriatrics, maternal health, behavioral trials, biomarkers, smart technology and mobile health.
Research expectations are to establish and maintain an externally funded research program in using clinical or population-based research to improve health and well-being across the lifespan. Specifically, this position emphasizes integrating computational neuroscience, neuroimaging, and biophysical modeling to develop cutting-edge AI applications that improve clinical outcomes for aging populations.
The Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics has a strong agenda focused on expanding clinical research activities that include health outcomes among vulnerable populations. The Department fosters collaborative relationships with investigators across diverse disciplines, including geriatrics, pediatrics, internal medicine, surgery, clinical research, biomedical informatics, molecular biology, epidemiology, genetics, psychiatry, behavioral medicine, policy evaluation, and health services and outcomes research. The Department works closely with the Institute on Aging, Institute for Child Health Policy, Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Department of Pediatrics, Department of Medicine, and the UFHealth Cancer Center. The Department, with 36 full‐time faculty members and over 100 professional and support staff, provides an exceptional research environment with $30M in extramural research expenditures in 2024. The Department is also integrally involved in the University‐wide NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program, the Claude D. Pepper Older American’s Independence Center, Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, and Resource Centers for Minority Research. Through its OneFL+ Clinical Data Research Network, the Department also houses health encounter, surveillance, medical record and patient reported outcome data across a range of pediatric, adult and geriatric populations. The environment provides exciting opportunities to develop multidisciplinary and translational collaborations across the lifespan.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain an externally funded research program leveraging AI, machine learning, and neuroimaging to advance biomarkers for brain aging and pain.
- Conduct innovative, translational research aimed at understanding the neurological underpinnings of pain and aging, with opportunities to work with extensive datasets, including those from the UK Biobank.
- Engage in mentorship, offering guidance to postdoctoral fellows and graduate students in neuroinformatics and pain research.
- Collaborate across the College of Medicine and Dentistry, Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics, and broader university community to enhance interdisciplinary research.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Ph.D. in neuroinformatics, computational neuroscience, or related fields, with a focus on AI applications in neuroimaging, aging, or pain research.
- Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and external research funding, with expertise in medical imaging analysis, biostatistics, and computational modeling.
- Knowledge and experience in research designs, conducting interventions and/or analytic methods are required.
- Experience in biophysical modeling, diffusion MRI, EEG/MEG, and AI methods, including neural networks and multivariate regression, is highly desirable.
- Participation in Departmental training activities, including teaching and mentoring, and University service are also expected and valued.
