Maintenance and Repair
- Complete a variety of painting, maintenance, and repair projects across the college facilities. This includes preparing spaces by moving furniture, removing, and reinstalling items on walls (e.g., boards, signs, TVs, pictures), patching holes, and executing both minor touch-ups and full-room painting. Tasks also involve servicing and restoring items like tables, chairs, and other furniture and assets to proper working condition.
Equipment Moving and Installation
- Perform tasks related to equipment and furniture moving and installation. Responsibilities include removing and installing furniture (desks, shelves, cabinets), assembling new furniture and equipment, and modifying existing furniture (e.g., installing/relocating keyboard trays, cabinet locks, handles, poster boards). Other tasks involve drilling holes in desks for wire management, installing monitors, and handling wall items (e.g., dry erase/bulletin boards, donor plaques, TVs, shelves). Coordination with the APK lab engineer for specific lab projects, such as installing equipment or modifying devices, is also required. Additionally, manage the movement of furniture/equipment/boxes within the college, picking up/transporting furniture from surplus or other campus locations, and disposing of discarded items. Operating and maintaining the necessary tools and machinery for these tasks is essential.
Coordination and Communication
- Collaborate with college and University personnel for the efficient completion of maintenance projects. This includes analyzing workload, determining work schedules, and implementing task lists for daily, weekly, or ongoing projects. Ensuring clear communication with the Facility and Operations Coordinator and other departments about maintenance needs and providing project updates is crucial. The role also includes acting as a backup for placing work orders, liaising with Facilities Services, outside contractors, and Environmental Health & Safety, and identifying and recommending solutions for problem areas.
Event Setup and Breakdown
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of event equipment in the gym, including stages, projector screens, tables, and chairs. Work with the Facility and Operations Coordinator and other college personnel to provide setup and breakdown for special events and meetings.
Vehicle Maintenance and Cleaning
- Manage the maintenance and cleaning of state vehicles by refueling at Motor Pool, checking and filling automotive fluids, washing and vacuuming, scheduling detailing services, and taking vehicles for annual safety inspections, scheduled service checks, and necessary repairs.
Records and Budget Management
- Create and maintain records supporting the maintenance program. Duties include working with the Facility and Operations Coordinator to prepare and submit the annual maintenance budget, purchasing and organizing supplies, maintaining records of transactions and P-card purchases, documenting paint and building supply samples used in college facilities, and performing inventory checks on tools and equipment.
Additional Responsibilities
- Handle deliveries and pickups of keys, shop supplies, and equipment, ensuring all deliveries are correct.
- Perform other duties as required to support the maintenance and operational needs of the college.

- Must be able to follow verbal instructions and written work orders.
- Ability to follow established safety practices and procedures
- Demonstrable ability to recognize the proper materials/equipment needed for a specific job and make necessary changes
- Must be able to work efficiently with minimum supervision and demonstrate personal initiative.
- Knowledge of the use of a variety of tools and the ability to use them safely.
- Skilled in installation of all types of hardware.
- Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate with various levels of staff.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computers and basic software applications (e.g. work order management systems, Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, Word).
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to drive or walk to customer/trouble locations
- Ability to move or lift heavy objects, such as furniture, ladders, tools, and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to wear appropriate safety equipment
- Ability to climb
- Ability to reach above shoulder frequently
- Ability to kneel
- Ability to bend repeatedly
Must have a valid State of Florida driver’s license with a good driving history.
