Biological Scientist I

Perform, oversee quality control, and troubleshoot diagnostic assays for Mollicutes (Mycoplasma sp., Ureaplasma sp., Acholeplasma sp.)
Provide reports and interface with users for the research diagnostics 
Perform molecular procedures such as PCR and RT-PCR, isolation of DNA or mRNA for genome sequencing and gene expression studies 

Preparation of microbial culture reagents and maintenance of fastidious microbes like Mycoplasma sp. and Ureaplasma sp. 
 

Assist with rodent and insect infection studies, necropsies, and tissue processing for microbial culture, histology, and immunohistochemistry 
Record data from experiments, maintain notebooks, updating or preparation of SOPs, and prepare written summaries of results, using computer and statistical analyses and data processing.

Assist with preparation of graphs and figures for publication.
Assist in supervising undergraduate and veterinary students doing research projects in the lab
Performing related duties as required.

Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related life science field.

Molecular biology and bacteriology research experience. PCR, ELISA, DNA/RNA and protein electrophoresis/blotting; prior experience with bacterial culture and sterile technique strongly preferred. Proficiency with word processing, statistical analysis, and bioinformatics software, including both Apple and Windows platforms is required. The successful candidate must be highly motivated, enthusiastic, well organized, able to multi-task, reliable, and able to interact well with others.
