Job Description:

The Tropical Research and Education Center at the University of Florida is seeking a dedicated Research Technician with a background in Plant Pathology to support laboratory and field testing on vegetable crops. This position is integral to our research efforts and involves hands-on work with both lab and field procedures to further our research objectives.

    • Prepare and work with microorganism culture media, conduct PCR and qPCR techniques for pathogen detection and analysis.
    • Assist with field-based activities, including planting, crop management, and harvesting tasks, to support experimental trials.
    • Perform general laboratory duties, including sample preparation, data recording, and maintenance of lab equipment and supplies.
Salary: $16.00 an hour commensurate on education and or experience
Minimum Requirements:
  • A master’s degree in plant Pathology or equivalent work experience with phytobacteria and fungi. Familiarity with fungal and bacterial isolation, culture, and identification.

  • Proficiency in microbiological techniques and experience with PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) and qPCR (Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction) methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with vegetable crops or other agricultural settings.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
