Job Description: |
The Tropical Research and Education Center at the University of Florida is seeking a dedicated Research Technician with a background in Plant Pathology to support laboratory and field testing on vegetable crops. This position is integral to our research efforts and involves hands-on work with both lab and field procedures to further our research objectives.
- Prepare and work with microorganism culture media, conduct PCR and qPCR techniques for pathogen detection and analysis.
- Assist with field-based activities, including planting, crop management, and harvesting tasks, to support experimental trials.
- Perform general laboratory duties, including sample preparation, data recording, and maintenance of lab equipment and supplies.

Salary: |
$16.00 an hour commensurate on education and or experience |
Minimum Requirements: |

A master’s degree in plant Pathology or equivalent work experience with phytobacteria and fungi. Familiarity with fungal and bacterial isolation, culture, and identification.

Proficiency in microbiological techniques and experience with PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) and qPCR (Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction) methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Experience with vegetable crops or other agricultural settings.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
