Job Description:

Assist dentists, dental residents, or dental students in treating patients as outlined in the State of Florida’s dental laws.  Take impressions for study models and opposing models for bridgework.  Mechanically polish amalgam restorations, clinical crowns, and supragingival areas.  Place matrices and wedges.  Remove excess cement.  Fabricate, place, and remove temporary fillings.  Expose and process dental x-ray film.  Instruct students on the appropriate role of dental assistants in the delivery of patient care.  Assist in various fourhanded techniques, such as administering anesthetics, grasping and transferring instruments, and malleting gold foil.

Expose, develop, and mount x-rays.  Give fluoride treatments.  Teach oral hygiene.  Remove dry socket dressings and periodontal packs.  Remove sutures.  Pack and medicate extraction areas.  Deliver sedative drug capsules to patients.  Package and sterilize clinical supplies and instruments.  Assist in organizing and controlling the use of clinical supplies.

Greet and prepare patients for treatment.  Establish rapport with the patients to relieve anxiety.  Schedule and coordinate patient appointments.  Maintain daily records and patient charts.  Collect patient data pertaining to clinical research.

Maintain and clean office and reception areas.  Orient new staff members and students regarding clinic procedures and policies.  Perform clerical duties (as assigned)

Expected Salary:

$16.76 - $17.00/hr, commensurate with education/experience

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Expanded Functions Dental Auxiliary (EFDA) Certification demonstrating the successful completion of training as specified in Chapter 64B5-16, Florida Administrative Code. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
