Job Description:

Program Support and Compliance

  • Collaborate with the Neurosurgery Residency Program Director (PD) and Associate Program Director(s) (APD) in developing and monitoring specific, measurable goals and objectives, ensuring adherence to technical and regulatory standards.
  • Manage compliance with ACGME requirements, anticipate potential deficiencies, recommend corrective actions, implement necessary changes, prepare materials for accreditation site visits, and actively participate in these visits.
  • Support the clerkship director in overseeing the neurological surgery clerkship, establishing effective learning experiences for all learners through clear communication, strategic organization, and scheduling practices.
  • Develop educational portfolios for resident assessment.
  • Participate in national forums for neurosurgical education (e.g., Southern Neurological Surgeons (SNS), ACGME, American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), ABNS, Neurological Institute (NI), and The Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS)).
  • Collaborate with the Educational APD on redesigning and realigning assessment methodologies, including designing new evaluation tools specific to each faculty member and rotation.

Residency Program Management

  • Direct the residency recruiting process, including interviews, applicant portfolios, and National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) match activities.
  • Manage the residency call schedule and Shands on-call system.
  • Maintain residency files and oversee meal ticket allocation and prescription disbursement.
  • Assist residents with licensure applications, DEA applications, and renewals, as well as manage monthly rotation and vacation schedules.
  • Manage residency program databases (e.g., New Innovations, WebADS, NRMP, ERAS, Caselogs, ACGME, AAMC, ABNS, AANS).
  • Review and verify Veterans Administration (VA) quarterly invoices for resident hours worked.
  • Coordinate and manage special events (e.g., visiting professors, intern orientation, graduation, Neurosurgery Research Day, ABNS examinations).
  • Verify post-graduate training and manage all fellowship activities for accredited and non-accredited programs (e.g., Endovascular, Cerebrovascular, Functional and Stereotactic, and Movement Disorders Fellowships).
  • Research and assist residents with travel grants and other funding opportunities.

Educational Development and Curriculum Support

  • Under the direction of the PD and APD, develop, plan, organize, and implement educational activities that support the curriculum.
  • Participate in recommending, developing, and enforcing departmental policies to create successful training programs.
  • Develop and maintain methods for meeting ACGME training requirements for surgical residency programs.
  • Establish specific, measurable goals and objectives for the six ACGME core competencies: Patient Care, Medical Knowledge, Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, Professionalism, and System-Based Practice.

Administrative Oversight

  • Manage job functions and coordinate personnel that support education and training programs.
  • Work with College of Medicine GME Office to verify resident housestaff lines.
  • Oversee the Clinical Competency Committee (CCC) and Program Evaluation Committee (PEC) processes.
  • Manage all functions of the Neurosurgery Education Office, including resident and student needs, testing, assessments, entering student grades, preparing residents for licensure and board certification, and scheduling conferences, small groups, and courses.
  • Review and approve all correspondence and program media (e.g., fliers, brochures, announcements).

 Faculty Development and Additional Responsibilities

  • Create a faculty development program focused on education.
  • Plan, develop, conduct, and lead educational workshops, grand rounds, and retreats for neurosurgery faculty and residents.
  • Generate evaluation reports for faculty, residents, students, and rotations.
  • Coordinate efforts to secure financial support for neurosurgical education through grants, philanthropic sources, and for-profit educational opportunities
Expected Salary:

$81,100-$92,200

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Managing/coordinating medical education/training programs
  • Proven experience in curriculum development, instructional design, and program evaluation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent problem-solving skills
