Job Description:

The successful candidate will join the UF CVM Professional Skills team working under the leadership of the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs.

The position will be housed under the Small Animal Clinical Sciences department (or other appropriate department per expertise) and report to the SACS department chair. The candidate is expected to provide structure and support for existing Professional Skills Courses throughout Phase 1 (year 1) and Phase 2 (year 2) of the DVM curriculum by teaching in the skills learning sessions, working directly with a broad range of DVM students, and collaborating with various faculty and support staff.  The candidate will be the course coordinator for all four semesters of Professional Skills in Phases 1 and 2 of the DVM curriculum and will be expected to organize, create, curate, and deliver content emphasizing evidence-based medicine, problem-oriented clinical medicine, and spectrum of care.  Course administrative and management duties will include organizing lab sessions, creating and managing online course content, coordinating with other faculty to deliver sessions, managing the course budgets, and supervising support staff directly involved in the Professional Skills courses.  The Professional Skills Educator will be responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising staff, in addition to encouraging their professional development and overseeing performance management.  The Professional Skills courses are primarily delivered in a purpose-built flexible laboratory space, fully equipped to allow for both technical skill development (including low- and high-fidelity models) and communication exercises. A barn located on the main CVM campus, also constructed specifically for instruction and research use, is used for large animal labs.

This position will further develop and contribute to the following threads in the ongoing curriculum redesign process: Spectrum of Care, Personal and Professional Skills, and Evidence-Based Medicine & Problem-Oriented Approach.  Current course content themes include basic hands-on technical skills, physical examination, medical records, medical calculations, evidence-based practice and key communication skills and the incumbent in this position will be responsible for adapting the current course content to align with the curricular redesign. The candidate will be expected to foster interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaborations and contribute to educational scholarship.  The Professional Skills Educator will contribute to the college’s American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accreditation and strategic planning initiatives, in addition to engaging in continuing education to maintain their own competencies and relevancy regarding employment trends.

Expected Salary:

Rank and salary will be based upon the successful candidate’s professional qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must have a commitment to advancing veterinary education through providing excellence and innovation in evidence-based clinical and professional skills teaching, learning, and assessment.  Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical medicine and would also benefit from a background in academic program administration, clinical teaching, adult education, and assessment.  Applicants must demonstrate strong leadership, collaborative, and communication skills.  Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree.
