Job Description:

The Division of Gynecologic Oncology, in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida is currently recruiting a full-time gynecologic oncologist faculty member, at the rank of Assistant/Associate/Professor, who has the experience and/or interest to develop a career as a physician-scientist with an increasing portion of their time dedicated to research.

The Gynecologic Oncology program at the University of Florida is a collaborative team of gyn oncologists, advanced practice providers, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gynecologic pathologists, genetic counselors, and palliative care to provide comprehensive care for women diagnosed with gynecologic malignancies and other complex gynecologic conditions. Academic faculty appointments are through the University of Florida College of Medicine, which is fully integrated with UF Health, and educational opportunities include teaching medical students and training ob/gyn residents. Faculty are members of the UF Health Cancer Center – one of three NCI-designated cancer centers in the state of Florida, which provides comprehensive support and opportunities for collaboration to investigators developing clinical trials or who have interest in pursuing a basic science or a translational research career. Surgical services are based at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL, where we are ranked as “high performing” in gynecologic cancer surgery and 17 other procedures and conditions evaluated by US News and World Reports. Inpatient and post-operative gynecologic oncology patients are admitted to the UF Health Cancer Hospital. Ambulatory care is provided at UF Health outpatient clinics located in Gainesville and Ocala. The gynecologic oncology division currently has 3 full-time physicians. Call is shared on a rotating night and weekend schedule.

As a member of the UF Health Cancer Center, one of three NCI-designated cancer centers in the state of Florida, you will join a team dedicated to providing leading-edge cancer care and conducting original research for the prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment of cancer. The University of Florida Health Cancer Center blends comprehensive patient care and innovative research in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. It boasts a membership of more than 280 researchers and clinicians from across the University of Florida and UF Health campuses. There are many opportunities to collaborate with other clinician researchers and basic scientists.  UF is a voting member of NRG Oncology and a member of the NCI Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trial Network (ETCTN).  Multiple services are available for physicians who are conducting clinical research and clinical trials including regulatory support, protocol writing, project management, biospecimen processing and collaborative networking with laboratory-based and population scientists from across the UF campus.

Primary faculty appointment is in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and includes a pivotal role in advancing our research activities and educational efforts through teaching residents and medical students in clinics and in the operating room. We are seeking qualified applicants who have previous experience and/or strong interest in developing a research career, including protected research time as appropriate for experience and interests. Participation is also expected as assigned in hospital, medical and department committees. Candidates should be comfortable working in a collaborative setting. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology employs 30 physicians, 20 APPs, a full-time Genetic Counselor, plus supporting administrative and clinical staff. There are six clinical divisions in the department including Academic Specialists in General Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, and Gynecologic Oncology.

Minimum Requirements:

M.D. or D.O. degree, completion of a four-year ACGME-accredited OBGYN residency program, completion of an accredited gynecologic oncology fellowship, and board certification in both obstetrics and gynecology and gynecologic oncology. Licensure by the Florida Board of Medical Examiners will be required prior to commencement of employment.
