Job Description:

Coordination and Management of Major College Units

  • Oversee, develop, and support development & alumni relationship team, including identifying and pursuing major college fundraising initiatives to advance College strategic priorities.
  • Oversee, develop, and support College strategic communications team, which has responsibility for all public messaging on behalf of the College including all public and social media platforms. 
  • Oversee, develop, and support College admissions team, which has responsibility for admitting and enrolling J.D. and non-J.D. students to all degree programs. 
  • Work collaboratively across these external-facing teams to create shared priorities for messaging and communication, to advance College strategic priorities, and to develop and support College reputation, advancement, and brand management.
  • Collaborate with the Dean and Executive or Senior Director of Development to support transformational gift projects, including $1 million+ prospects and high-profile strategic growth partnerships.

 Strategic Leadership of College

  • Actively work with the Dean and other College leaders on executive team to develop and execute strategic vision for the College, including leading College strategic initiatives as identified and developed by College executive and senior leadership team.
  • Coordinate and work with Assistant Dean for Messaging and Outreach to develop presentations and speeches for events, including alumni events, events for Board of Trustees or University leadership, and major College events.
  • Coordinate and work with Assistant Dean for Admissions and Director of Admissions to market and brand J.D. and non-J.D. programs to increase revenue generation while maintaining J.D. admissions selectivity.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the University to expand collaboration and outreach, including overseeing any cross-College initiatives.
  • Direct brand management and development for the College, while working with external stakeholders to promote engagement and investment in the College. 

Operations & Personnel Management

  • Build, manage, and lead a high performing team of development, admissions, and marketing/communications professionals.  Nurture and/or recruit top talent, provide counsel on matters relating to messaging/brand management, fundraising, recruitment and evaluation of students, and ensure accountability, including by establishing goals in alignment with unit objectives, developing metrics, and engaging in strategic planning.  The Associate Dean will evaluate staff, develop a strong sense of teamwork, and establish an environment of mentoring and support. 
  • Plan and monitor the unit budgets in consultation with the Dean; ensure best practices in office systems, practices, files, and record keeping.
Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements:

J.D. degree and ten years of appropriate experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Eight to ten years of major gift fundraising experience with documented success in cultivating and soliciting major gifts of $500,000 and above from individual and corporate prospects.
  • 7+ years’ experience leading a high performing team, including prior management of development officers.  Track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining a high caliber staff, building a team, and creatively organizing and managing them to maximize the support of external constituencies.
  • Prior experience with fundraising, marketing, communications, and/or selective admissions processes in a university setting.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing strategic priorities for major college unit and working with key executive leaders to pursue strategic goals. 
  • A strong understanding of budgeting practices, financial accountability, and the ability to manage resources with prudence and efficiency.
  • Business acumen and the ability to work collaboratively as a team player.
  • Should be an outstanding communicator and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills; and the ability to work collegially and interact effectively with a diverse constituency.
  • An appreciation for and support of diversity in the workplace in all its forms; proven success working with stakeholders; excellent strategic planning and project management skills; experience in a data-driven environment; organizational skills; and the ability to lead, influence and motivate others are required.
  • The ability and willingness to travel.  A valid driver license and good driving record are essential.
