Job Description:

Perform general carpentry or maintenance for residence hall facilities 

 

  • Perform general carpentry tasks using power and hand tools (e.g. table saws, planers operate jointers, drill press, router, and shaping tools).
  • Laminate and finish file cabinets and countertops, install cabinets and associated components, as well as fabricate and install multiple forms of millwork products.
  • Assists with cutting, assembling, laminating, covering, delivering, and installing cabinetry and related items such as kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, desks, and wardrobes.
  • Fabricate or repair counters, benches, partitions, or other wooden structures, such as sheds or outbuildings
  • Responsible for collecting field measurement necessary to design cabinetry.
  • Design cabinetry in computer aided design software; Nest designed cabinets into the computer numerical control (CNC) machine’s program for millwork fabrication.
  • Monitor and assist in the management of workflow, productivity, and quality tolerances of output from the CNC machine needed to efficiently provide materials needed for assembly on the shop floor.
  • Repairs and maintains current furniture such as striping or refinishing of furniture. 
  • Input and process work order requests utilizing web-based work order management system
  • Read and interpret blueprints/schematic drawings and specifications. 
  • Reference maintenance manuals for task completion.
  • Complete door, frame, and lock repair, replacement, and/or installations.
  • Performs demolition of carpentry materials in maintenance and renovation of apartments, residence halls, and tenant occupied spaces. 
  • Use issued air purifying respirator; abide by the UF EH&S Respiratory Protection Program.

Assist with assigned general maintenance tasks for residence hall facilities 

  • Prepare and paint and/or repair parts of building structures, interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, and equipment
  • Fabricate or repair counters, benches, partitions, or other wooden structures, such as sheds or outbuildings

Assist in maintaining inventory of materials, supplies, tools and/or equipment throughout area of responsibility; ensure organized workstations and storage closets with necessary materials as directed

  • Perform general cleaning duties after the completion of maintenance tasks both interior and exterior.

Perform other duties as assigned, including special tasks or projects

  • Operates state vehicles
Expected Salary:

$20 - $22 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in carpentry; or a high school diploma or equivalent and three years of relevant experience.  Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Three (3) years of experience and general working knowledge of cabinet stiles (face frame and frameless construction), types of materials (e.g. woods, laminates, and solid surfaces), and finishing (e.g. paint, stain)
  • Understanding of furniture repair and general maintenance
  • Experience reading blueprints and cabinet layouts
  • Elevated level of knowledge in the materials, principles, practices, and use of tools in the carpentry field; such as use of computer numerical control (CNC) machine program for millwork fabrication

SKILLS

  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and basic software applications (e.g. work order management systems, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate with various levels of staff
  • Skill in using hand tools and equipment
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, and timeliness
  • Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills  

ABILITIES

  • Ability to use the listed software to machine parts for the production of cabinetry and other products
  • Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of residents, tenants, and/or guests.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a multifaceted environment
