The Opportunity and Job Description

P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School (DRS) is seeking to hire two

INSTRUCTOR/PKY - K-8 Science/STEM Instructors for the 24-25 school year. Instructor responsibilities include: 

  • Design and develop personally meaningful, real-world projects that are based on and in alignment with Florida state science standards
  • Design, develop, and teach curriculum featuring the adobe suite, iPad and Chromebook tools, to develop skills and knowledge associated with creativity and design thinking in the digital age
  • Collaborate and co-teach with other science and engineering educators at P.K. Yonge
  • Create and model quality science lessons that core subject area teachers can replicate in their classrooms
  • Direct teaching of assigned students
  • Administer and analyze formative assessments to monitor student progress and plan instructional shifts to increase achievement and success for all students
  • Design appropriate curriculum, instructional, and assessment accommodations to support academic success for a diverse group of students including both striving and advanced learners
  • Incorporate effective and innovative uses of technology to support teaching, learning, and collaboration in a 1:1 learning environment
  • Maintain regular parent communication (virtually, face-to-face)
  • Engage in annual cycles of professional learning
  • Participate in practitioner inquiry (research) to support professional learning and inform continuous program improvement
  • Analyze the impact of teaching practice and implemented curriculum on student learning

The

INSTRUCTOR/PKY - K-8 Science/STEM Instructors will extend science, engineering and STEM learning for elementary and middle school students beyond the core classrooms. This instructor will be responsible for the design and implementation of an authentic, hands-on science curriculum in alignment with Florida standards for K-5 science as well as elective experiences in engineering for grade 6-8 students. This instructor will need the knowledge and skills to design relevant, high-interest units of study and the ability to engage learners across both elementary and middle school. Both the design and implementation of curriculum will be within the responsibility of this role.  The ideal candidate would have teaching experience and training in the Project Lead the Way engineering curriculum as well as recent training and instructional experience in tech tools and computer programming to support student learning.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with education & experience.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. A Master’s degree; candidates with Bachelor’s degree will be considered, but will be required to obtain a Master’s degree within three years of hire.
  2. Florida teaching certification
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  4. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and effective strategies for motivating and teaching students with differing abilities from a variety of backgrounds
  5. FDLE Background check
Preferred Qualifications:

3+ years of K-12 teaching experience
