Job Description:
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and professional development for a multidisciplinary team, including associate/assistant director(s), health promotion specialists, wellness coaches, graduate assistants, and administrative staff. Oversee departmental budget, ensuring responsible fiscal stewardship and prioritization of initiatives. Prepare annual reports summarizing departmental activities, program effectiveness, and contributions to institutional goals. Advise university leadership on health and wellness policies that align with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., Title IX, Clery Act, and Health Insurance and Portability Act—HIPAA). Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and adherence to ethical practices in health promotion services.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a university-wide health promotion and prevention framework that addresses student well-being, including mental health, nutrition, sexual health, substance use, stress management, and overall wellness. Create data-driven programs and policies, including health education campaigns, workshops, and materials, that align with the Division of Student Life and the Health and Wellbeing strategic plans and national best practices, such as those outlined by ACHA (American College Health Association) and NASPA. Develop prevention-focused initiatives aimed at reducing high-risk behaviors and enhancing resilience among students. Utilize data collection and assessment tools to monitor the health needs of students, assess program outcomes, and guide continuous improvement efforts.  Serve as a health advocate, influencing campus policies and environments to reduce physical and mental health concerns among the student body.
  • Foster partnerships with on-campus departments, such as the Counseling and Wellness Center, RecSports, UF Housing and Residence Life, Campus Assistance & Resources for Empowerment (CARE), Student Health Care Center, and Academic Affairs, as well as off-campus community organizations, to enhance student health and wellness.  Represent the University of Florida and the Division of Student Life on appropriate committees or at conferences on the national, state and university-level. Implement peer education programs and initiatives that empower students to serve as health ambassadors and leaders in the campus community.
  • Provide leadership on the identification and application of grant funding streams, including collaborations with other UF units.
  • Provide feedback to supervisor regarding the safety and/or condition of programs, equipment and facilities. Conduct daily observations and/or use said equipment and facilities. Immediately document and address all safety concerns. Operate a state vehicle.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Expected Salary:

$90,000 - $95,000

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and six years of relevant experience or a bachelor's degree in appropriate areas of specialization and eight years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctor’s or  master’s degree in public health, health promotion, health policy or health education; degrees in other health related fields may be considered; preferable experience in a higher education environment; Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH); Certified Wellness Coach [or eligible and intent to become certified]; experience supervising staff, conducting assessments and using results to guide programmatic decisions, design and implementation of health promotion programs, cultural and policy change activities and strategies, social marketing and health communication strategies, and grant writing; knowledge of the American College Health Association’s Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education (ACHA SPHPHE) and the Healthy Campus Framework; demonstrated knowledge of health promotion, behavior change, population-based theories and models, and evidence-based health promotion programs/initiatives; demonstrated skills in developing and targeting health promotion initiatives and educational materials for college students; demonstrated skills in a variety of educational methods (e.g., presentations, workshops, trainings, individual behavior change sessions and small group discussion/facilitation); supervisory and organizational skills; and proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and assessment tools such as Qualtrics; ability to analyze problems, conduct research, implement solutions; and to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, on campus and in the community.
  • Physical ability to perform required tasks; ability to lift and/or move objects weighing 10 pounds or more, ability to carry boxes and materials weighing up to 30 pounds; willingness to be an active member of at least one relevant professional organization; and maturity to satisfactorily discharge assigned responsibilities.
