Responds to environmental calls (temperature, mechanical noise, odors, etc.) from customers and supervisors and troubleshoots associated systems to determine the cause of the problem. Maximizes effective operational control of equipment using the building automation system (BAS). Affected equipment and systems include, but are not limited to, HVAC, lighting, compressors, domestic and lab water, sump pumps, vacuum, steam, and exhaust. Skillfully use field knowledge combined with the necessary tools, equipment, meters, and computers to install, operate, and/or adjust pneumatic and digital automation and control system controllers with their associated components (sensors, actuators, relays, transducers, variable frequency drives, controllers, etc.) both connected to a network or “stand alone” for, but not limited to, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); heating hot water; chilled water; steam; etc.; to maintain an energy efficient, safe, and comfortable environment in laboratories, offices, classrooms, etc.
Sets up and records trends, historical, and totalization data logs to determine utility consumption and identify issues campus-wide. Performs system analysis and develops strategies to improve system efficiency using real time data, data logs, psychrometric chart, spreadsheets, and utility manager software applications. This includes monitoring, adjusting, balancing, testing, calibrating, scheduling, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, performance testing, and commissioning direct digital controls (DDC) controls, and performs database backups and systems software and hardware upgrades. Install control panels and sensors.
Works with Maintenance and Operations personnel to review, inspect, and record project information as needed. Works directly with contractors to define the project scope of work, collect quotes, and follow up on work performed. Provides support and training to other departmental personnel as required. Reviews and participates in system commissioning. Receives, enters, and completes assigned work orders using the computerized maintenance manager system (CMMS) through personal computer (PC) and smartphone applications. Provide written summary of day-to-day activities to the Supervisor and Superintendent.
Assist other tradesmen in complex work projects or special assignments. Ensure proper care in safe use and maintenance of vehicles, tools, and equipment. Ensure employee and vendors comply with safety guidelines.
Complete work assignments, ensuring compliance with standards. Operate UF vehicle(s) that requires a valid driver license.
Requires a criminal background and post-offer health assessment.
Work hours - Monday – Friday, 7: 00 am – 3:30pm. Emergency work as needed; work On-Call as required. Position considered as Essential Personnel as defined by UF Policy.

Preferred Qualifications: |
Instrumentation installation, calibration, maintenance, and/or repair of automation and control systems.
Mechanical, Electrical, and/or HVAC and BAS installation, service or troubleshooting. Intermediate computer skills, windows file structure, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.), and understand basic networking.
