The selected candidate will be primarily responsible for performing in vitro and in vivo experiments using molecular, biochemical and cellular assays in cell culture systems and animal models; Defining goals for research projects and experiments in conjunction with the Principal Investigator (PI) and other research staff; and maintaining and managing all laboratory animal colonies. The candidate will work under the direct supervision of the PI.
The specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• Perform subretinal injections to deliver AAV viral vectors to animal models and evaluate retinal structure and function in laboratory animals using noninvasive vivo imaging technologies (OCT, ERG, fundoscopy).
• Evaluate data by performing appropriate mathematical or statistical calculations and analysis. Compile data using Photoshop, Excel, GraphPad, ImageJ, and PowerPoint.
• Dissect and collect mouse ocular tissues and perform histology and Western Blot analysis.
• Use microscopy to examine and photograph specimens.
• Maintain accurate electronic laboratory databases, records, procedures, and results.
• Verify that equipment and instrumentation are kept in working condition to ensure accuracy and quality of experimental results.
• Participate in laboratory safety programs to ensure compliance with federal regulations and internal regulatory bodies such as IACUC and EH&S.

Preferred Qualifications: |
Candidate should have significant work experience with subretinal/intravitreal injection procedures in laboratory animals (includes knowledge of AAV gene delivery systems, mouse anesthesia and recovery, intraperitoneal drug administration), immunostaining and Western blotting, strong organizational skills, and maturity.
