Job Description:

Perform general maintenance or preventative maintenance for residence hall facilities

  • Input and process work order requests utilizing web-based work order management system.
  • Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
  • Maintain and repair machines, equipment, or devices to access, remove, and repair defective parts using hoists, hand tools, or power tools.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters
  • Install equipment to improve the energy or operational efficiency of commercial buildings.
  • Reference diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, and schematic diagrams.
  • Operate cutting torches, soldering, and brazing equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Complete door, frame, and lock repair, replacement, and/or installations.
  • Perform general construction tasks such as: remove/install floor and wall tile, repair grout; remove, replace, and/or repair doors and hardware; remove, replace, and/or repair cabinetry; remove, replace, and/or repair windows, window screens, glass, and window blinds; remove, replace, and/or repair gypsum based wall board and finishes; remove, replace, and/or repair ceiling tile and grid; removal and installation of floor covering and finishes: stretch in carpet, glue down carpet, LVT (luxury vinyl tile), VCT (vinyl composite tile, and hard tile (ceramic and porcelain); Demolition of walls, ceilings, gypsum materials, floor finishes, etc. as directed

Responsible for completion of basic tasks within multiple skilled trades (Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, HVAC/Mechanical, or Roofing)

  • Responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems, fixtures, and accessories 
  • Minor troubleshooting and repair of wiring, electrical or electronic components
  • Minor troubleshooting of television and data signal
  • Prepare and paint and/or repair parts of building structures, interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, and equipment
  • Fabricate or repair counters, benches, partitions, or other wooden structures, such as sheds or outbuildings.
  • Perform routine and general maintenance on electrical heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment.
  • Repair and maintain roof/roof-related coverings with flashing and sealant materials

Assist in maintaining inventory of materials, supplies, tools and/or equipment throughout area of responsibility; ensure organized workstations and storage closets with necessary materials as directed

  • Perform general cleaning duties after the completion of maintenance tasks within buildings or properties.

Perform other duties as assigned, including special tasks or projects

  • Operates state vehicles 
Expected Salary:

$19.00 - $21.00 per hour.

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE:

  • Four (4) years of experience and general working knowledge of multiple skilled trades such as plumbing, electrical, carpentry, construction, HVAC/Mechanical, roofing, or general maintenance
  • Working knowledge of acoustical ceiling installation and repair
  • Experience with flooring installation of; glue down carpet, stretch in carpet, LVT (luxury vinyl tile), VCT (vinyl composite tile), as well as ceramic and porcelain tile.

SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and basic software applications (e.g. work order management systems, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate with various levels of staff
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, and timeliness
  • Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of residents, tenants, and/or guests.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a multifaceted environment
Special Instructions to Applicants:
  • Regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 08:00 a.m. to 04:30 p.m.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Some overtime outside of regularly scheduled work hours will be required especially during peak times.
  • This position may serve in an on-call rotation for handling emergencies for campus housing and/or areas of responsibility
