University of Florida (UF) Seeking Chief of Division of Geriatric Medicine

The Chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine in the UF Department of Medicine, will provide strategic vision and leadership for the clinical, educational, research and professional development initiatives of this nationally recognized program. Applicants should be at the Professor or Associate Professor rank. The successful candidate will:

  • Be an outstanding clinician with a track record of strong leadership and program building
  • Have a distinguished record of sustained accomplishment in extramurally-funded basic, translational, epidemiological, or clinical research
  • Recruit and retain talented faculty to fulfill the clinical, educational, and research needs of the Division and the College of Medicine.
  • Serve as a key leader in Aging, Geriatrics, and Gerontology at the University, interfacing with other UF Health clinical and research programs in interdisciplinary collaborations. These include the UF Institute on Aging (IOA), UF Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (OAIC), Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC), and Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. For qualified clinician-scientists, there is an opportunity to take a leadership role in organizing and growing aging research through the UF Institute on Aging to achieve even greater impact in the decade ahead.

Clinical Highlights: The dynamic group of faculty and fellows in the Division of Geriatric Medicine within the Department of Medicine provide a full range of clinical services to address the needs of our aging patients. This includes primary care clinics at two locations, consultative geriatric care of inpatients at UF Health Shands Hospital, and care for outpatients at five skilled nursing facilities. There is significant additional demand for the Division’s clinical services, including for outpatient clinic visits and additional skilled nursing facilities that have requested our assistance. In the past fifteen years, the UF Geriatric program has consistently been highly ranked according to a broad range of objective metrics and has obtained the highest levels of patient satisfaction at UF. In addition, the UF Geriatric Division is among the best nationally ranked Geriatric specialties (42rd) and 1st in Florida according to US News & World Report.

Research highlights: The University of Florida is a top public research university and includes substantial resources to support teaching, research, and collaboration, including one of only two NIH-funded Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) hubs in the state of Florida, the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (OAIC) funded by the National Institute on Aging, and the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the adjacent VA Medical Center. Approximately 10,000 sq. ft. in the IOA-CTRB are dedicated to clinical research space. That space includes 1,000 sq. ft. of physical performance laboratory and 15 dedicated interview, assessment and examination rooms and a 25-meter corridor specially dedicated to performing walking testing.

The successful candidate will join a vibrant and diverse aging-centric research community.  The Institute on Aging acts as a hub for research on aging and Geriatrics. The Institute houses many affiliates creating a truly multi-disciplinary philosophy. Together, UF researchers are leading more than 100 active projects funded by the National Institute on Aging, with active project funding totaling approximately $74 million as of December 2023. UF is home to a Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center which is one of 14 centers of excellence funded by the National Institute on Aging. The center is located in a new contemporary building with the latest in equipment and expertise in epidemiological, clinical, translational and technology research on aging. It is also closely aligned with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute and the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center that offer a myriad of research services and expertise. Expected Salary:

Salary is negotiable, commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must be board-certified in Geriatric Medicine and be eligible for a Florida Medical License.
