The University of Florida Department of Neurology invites applications from outstanding candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position, at the rank of Assistant Scientist in the Movement Disorders and Neurodegeneration Division. The successful candidate will investigate the association between TDP-43 proteinopathy and Alzheimer’s disease using Drosophila as experimental system. The work involves advanced Drosophila genetics, dissection and analysis of fly brains by histology, immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy, behavioral studies, and design and application of optogenetic tools using confocal and multiphoton microscopy.

The preferred candidate must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree and should have at least 4-5 years of postdoctoral training using fly models of Alzheimer’s disease along with documented experience using in vivo and ex vivo optogenetic approaches. A deep understanding of the effects and properties of different light induction sources such as custom LED programmable lamps as well as fluorescence microscopy coupled with digital micro-mirror devices (DMD) is essential. A commitment to work on preparation of manuscripts and grant proposals is also expected.
